MIAMI, Feb. 10, 2025 – Avianca Cargo is wrapping up its most successful Valentine’s Day season to date, achieving remarkable milestones in flower shipments from Colombia and Ecuador to the United States. The airline, known for its expertise in air cargo, met the high demand of the season by doubling its capacity and focusing on efficient, on-time delivery and superior service.
Avianca Cargo operated roughly 300 flights during the season, transporting an impressive 18,000 tons of flowers to major hubs like Miami and Los Angeles. To ensure smooth operations, the company enhanced its infrastructure and ramped up its workforce by 30%. These efforts paid off, as Avianca managed to cut flower processing and delivery times by over 40% and achieved a 50% faster delivery rate.
“We’ve worked tirelessly to optimize our logistics and enhance the customer experience,” said Diogo Elias, Senior Vice President of Avianca Cargo. “These efficiency gains are a testament to our dedicated team, strong partnerships, and relentless focus on quality.”
The success of Avianca’s U.S. operations this season highlights the company’s leadership in flower transport. Notably, the airline reduced flower processing times in Miami by 57%, ensuring faster, more reliable service. Avianca Cargo also claimed the top spot for flower shipments to Los Angeles, reinforcing its dominance in the U.S. market.
Miami International Airport (MIA), America’s largest gateway for fresh flowers, welcomed over 1,500 tons of blooms daily during the peak period, a 3% increase from last year. Ralph Cutie, Director and CEO of MIA, expressed pride in the partnership with Avianca Cargo, emphasizing the role of federal support from U.S. Customs and Border Protection in ensuring flowers arrived on time for the holiday.
As part of its continued investment in the flower transportation sector, Avianca Cargo is expanding its fleet in 2025 with two additional Airbus A330 P2F aircraft. This expansion will allow the airline to further meet the demands of high-volume markets, including those in the U.S. and Europe.
Elias concluded, “We delivered the capacity we promised for this season and upheld our commitment to providing excellent service, ensuring the flowers arrived on time for customers across the U.S. and beyond.”
With its ongoing focus on innovation and quality, Avianca Cargo is set to maintain its position as a leader in the transportation of perishable goods, continuing to serve the floral industry with exceptional reliability and efficiency.
