Emir Pineda, Trade & Logistics Manager for the Marketing Division of the Miami-Dade Aviation Department, which operates Miami International Airport (MIA), has been elected to the Board of The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA).

Pineda started his career as an intern at MIA in 1988 before embarking on a career that has seen him work in senior business development roles for cargo trade at both Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) Airport and Air France/KLM Martinair Cargo. He also served as the Commercial Route Development Manager for Cargolux, responsible for sales and operations throughout Latin America.

“It is an honour to have been selected to be a member of the Board of TIACA, the only organization that truly represents the entire cargo supply chain,” said Pineda.

“For my tenure I would like to continue to pivot the association towards innovation, thus adding value to our members and the entire global logistics industry. “In addition, I hope to attract greater focus and participation from Latin America, which has historically been under represented in the association.” MIA is recognised as the world’s largest gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean, handling 83% of all air imports and 79% of all exports to/from the region.

“TIACA has been growing its global footprint as part of our new mission and vision for the Association,” said Sebastiaan Scholte, Chairman of TIACA and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Jan de Rijk Logistics.

“MIA is the main gateway between the Americas, which is an important growing region for us.”

TIACA has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with several Latin American organizations who will be participating in the Association’s biennial event Air Cargo Forum (ACF).  They include the Argentina-based Americas Alliance (AA), the Colombia-headquartered Federation of National Associations of Cargo Agents and International Logistical Operators of Latin America and the Caribbean (ALACAT), Chile-based logistics provider Universal Agencies South America (AGUNSA) and Mexican Association of Freight Forwarders (AMACARGA).

Pineda joins in the run up to ACF, which will bring together thousands of airfreight decision makers and supply chain operators from across the globe. The 2020 event will be held at the Miami Beach Convention Center, which has undergone a USD525 million renovation and is set to become one of the premier expo venues in the Americas. Planning also continues for TIACA’s Executive Summit (ES), which takes place in Budapest, Hungary on November 19th-21st 2019.
