FedEx Dubai Hub Secures IATA CEIV Pharma Certification
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

FedEx has secured IATA CEIV Pharma certification for its Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa regional hub at Dubai World Central (DWC), strengthening its capabilities in handling and transporting temperature-sensitive healthcare shipments.

The certification, announced on 6 October 2026, brings FedEx’s global total to 30 CEIV Pharma-certified air hubs and cargo handling facilities. The recognition follows an assessment of more than 280 criteria covering operational processes, storage infrastructure, equipment, quality management systems and regulatory compliance.

Located in Dubai South, the DWC hub spans 57,000 sq m and is purpose-built to support the company’s regional express and cargo operations. Its infrastructure includes a 170 sq m temperature-controlled storage area for sensitive healthcare shipments, alongside automated handling capabilities and high-speed security screening.

Taarek Hinedi, vice president of operations and planning and engineering at FedEx Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa, said the certification reflected the company’s commitment to healthcare logistics services that meet international standards.

He added that the facility plays a critical role in connecting businesses across the region with the FedEx global network, combining cold-chain expertise, technology and shipment visibility to support the movement of sensitive products.

Technology supports shipment monitoring

To strengthen oversight of healthcare shipments, FedEx combines its AI-powered FedEx Surround monitoring and intervention solution with SenseAware sensor technology. The systems provide near-real-time information on package location, temperature and environmental conditions, allowing the company to identify potential issues and intervene when necessary.

Shipment visibility and temperature control are important considerations in pharmaceutical logistics, where deviations from specified handling conditions can compromise product quality. IATA’s CEIV Pharma programme assesses processes, facilities, equipment, personnel and quality management to promote consistent standards across the pharmaceutical air cargo supply chain.

The Dubai certification forms part of FedEx’s wider effort to expand its healthcare logistics capabilities across key international markets.

Wider investment in air cargo infrastructure

The certification comes amid broader changes to FedEx’s logistics operations and network strategy.

In October 2026, the CMA CGM Group completed its acquisition of FedEx Supply Chain at an enterprise value of US$1.4 billion. The companies also entered into multi-year commercial agreements covering air and ocean freight, with the aim of expanding collaboration across global supply chains.

FedEx has also announced plans to develop a new integrated air cargo hub at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. The proposed facility at GMR Cargo City represents a planned investment of US$150 million and is intended to strengthen cargo connectivity for businesses in India.

Together, these developments highlight FedEx’s continuing focus on specialised logistics capabilities, infrastructure and network connectivity. For healthcare customers, the newly certified Dubai hub adds another internationally recognised facility supporting the handling of time- and temperature-sensitive shipments across the Middle East, the Indian Subcontinent and Africa.
