TAAG Airlines has doubled its cargo flights to Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and South Africa as part of its plans to grow within the African air cargo market.

From Dr. Antonio Agostinho Neto International Airport (NBJ) in Luanda, Angola, TAAG now offers two weekly frequencies to Lagos (LOS) in Nigeria, Brazzaville (BZV) in the Republic of Congo and Johannesburg (JNB) in South Africa using a 737-800 Boeing Converted Freighter (BCF).

The NBJ-LOS-BZV route departs from Angola on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while the NBJ-JNB route departs from Angola on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

TAAG said it is now providing “more than 100 tons of cargo capacity each week, on the Luanda/Johannesburg connection and more than 45 tons, on the Luanda-Lagos-Brazzaville route”.

TAAG began operating regular cargo flights from NBJ in Luanda in February.

According to the airline’s website, its passenger fleet includes Boeing 737-700, Boeing 777-300ER and Boeing 777-200ER aircraft, as well as De Havilland Dash 8-Q400 aircraft.

TAAG also has a leased 737-800BCF (Boeing Converted Freighter), delivered in December 2023.

The 737-800BCF is capable of transporting up to 23.9 tonnes of cargo. The main deck offers 141.5 m3 of cargo space, while the lower deck provides 43.7 m3 of space for bulk cargo.

Additionally, the freighter has the capacity for 11 pallet positions that can accommodate 10 contoured 96in x 125in pallets.

Network Airline Management (NAM) also currently has an agreement with TAAG to provide a weekly 747F scheduled service from Liege, Belgium, to Luanda.

NAM provides a 747-400F aircraft with nose door capability which carries up to 120,000 kilos of cargo on its core flight schedule.
