Blue Dart Express has achieved a significant milestone in India’s logistics and air cargo industry, completing 30 years of dedicated aviation operations. Since launching its aviation network in 1996, the company has played a pioneering role in transforming time-definite express delivery services across the country, connecting businesses, markets, and communities through a reliable and extensive air logistics infrastructure.
Over the past three decades, Blue Dart’s aviation division has emerged as a cornerstone of its integrated express logistics network, enabling next-day and under-24-hour deliveries across India. The dedicated air network has supported a wide range of industries, including life sciences and healthcare, banking and financial services, manufacturing, automotive, e-commerce, and small and medium enterprises (SMEs), where speed, reliability, and precision are critical to supply chain performance.
During its 30-year journey, Blue Dart’s aviation network has operated more than 215,000 flights and transported over 2.05 million tonnes of air cargo, underscoring its significant contribution to India’s growing logistics ecosystem. The company attributed this achievement to the collective efforts of its highly skilled workforce, including pilots, aircraft engineers, operations teams, safety and security personnel, and numerous support functions that ensure seamless operations around the clock.
The airline’s capabilities have also been instrumental during periods of national importance, most notably during the COVID-19 pandemic, when Blue Dart played a vital role in transporting vaccines, personal protective equipment (PPE), and other essential medical supplies across the country, helping maintain critical healthcare and supply chain continuity.
Commenting on the landmark achievement, Balfour Manuel, Managing Director of Blue Dart Express Limited, said, “Blue Dart’s aviation capability has been a key enabler of our time-definite delivery promise, supporting next-day and under-24-hour delivery commitments across India. It has strengthened the speed, reliability, and certainty that customers associate with Blue Dart, while connecting businesses, markets, and communities across the country.”
He added that the company’s aviation infrastructure continues to differentiate Blue Dart within India’s highly competitive logistics landscape and remains central to its commitment to delivering service excellence and supporting the country’s rapidly evolving supply chain requirements.
At the heart of Blue Dart’s air operations is its dedicated fleet of eight Boeing 737 and Boeing 757 freighter aircraft, which have facilitated the movement of millions of shipments over the years. The fleet has enhanced connectivity between major metropolitan centres and emerging economic regions, supporting India’s expanding manufacturing base, rising consumer demand, and the continued growth of e-commerce.
Nikhil B. Ved, Managing Director of Blue Dart Aviation Limited, described the anniversary as a reflection of three decades of operational excellence, collaboration, and continuous innovation.
“Completing 30 years of aviation operations is a major turning point in Blue Dart’s journey. This achievement reflects our unwavering commitment to safety, operational excellence, trusted partnerships, and a relentless focus on customer needs. It is also a testament to the dedication of our employees and the continued support of regulatory authorities, airport partners, and service providers,” he said.
Looking ahead, Ved emphasised that Blue Dart will continue to invest in strengthening operational capabilities, embracing technology, and building a future-ready aviation network that aligns with India’s evolving logistics and economic landscape.
The milestone comes at a time when air cargo is becoming increasingly critical to India’s growth story. With manufacturing expansion, rapid e-commerce penetration, and rising demand for faster and more reliable deliveries, dedicated freighter operations have become essential for ensuring supply chain efficiency and connectivity across the nation.
As Blue Dart enters its fourth decade of aviation operations, the company remains focused on enhancing network resilience, increasing operational efficiency through technology and automation, and further strengthening its role as a key facilitator of India’s express logistics and air cargo ecosystem.
