DHL eCommerce UK has unveiled the inauguration of a state-of-the-art £7 million facility in Camberley, marking a significant milestone as the first operationally carbon-neutral site within the DHL eCommerce UK network. This cutting-edge site is powered predominantly by solar energy, showcasing a robust commitment to sustainability.
Earning the highest Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of A+, the building owes its energy efficiency to a combination of onsite renewable energy generation, advanced IoT technology to minimize energy consumption, utilization of low-use water appliances and submeters, and the incorporation of equipment and materials with low embodied carbon. In instances where weather conditions necessitate grid electricity usage, the site prioritizes sourcing renewable energy.
Spanning over 3,000 square meters, the site is poised to handle up to 10,000 parcels daily and is equipped with ten electric van charging points. This development in Camberley represents a vital component of DHL’s broader £482 million investment in its UK infrastructure, aimed at fostering sustainable growth. Additionally, DHL is gearing up to unveil its second hub in Coventry in the near future, significantly augmenting volume capacity and setting new standards in eCommerce automation.
Stuart Hill, CEO of DHL eCommerce UK, underscores the significance of the Camberley facility, describing it as a blueprint for sustainable growth within the industry. With the imminent launch of the Coventry Hub, DHL is poised to elevate service levels and expand capacity across the country.
The design of the Camberley site prioritizes employee wellbeing, incorporating biophilic design principles to enhance connectivity with the natural environment. Features such as a living wall in the lobby contribute to this ethos. Furthermore, the site offers amenities like EV charging stations and a sustainable cycle shed, encouraging employees to embrace eco-friendly commuting options.
