Passengers flying in and out of Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) can now expect a boost in ground handling efficiency as dnata’s Airport Handling officially launches operations at Italy’s busiest airport. With an ambitious investment of over €20 million, the company is set to manage nearly 70,000 flights annually, supporting 22 airline partners with a workforce of more than 2,100 aviation professionals.
This expansion marks a major milestone for Airport Handling, already a trusted name at Milan’s Malpensa (MXP) and Linate (LIN) airports, where it serves over 60 airlines. Now, with its entry into Rome, the company is positioning itself as Italy’s leading ground services provider, handling an impressive 150,000 flights a year across its network.
A Major Investment in Sustainability and Efficiency
With a strong commitment to sustainability, Airport Handling has equipped its operations at FCO with a fleet of advanced electric ground support vehicles, ensuring a greener, more efficient service. The investment aligns with broader industry efforts to reduce the environmental impact of airport operations.
Alberto Morosi, CEO of Airport Handling, expressed his enthusiasm for the expansion, saying, “We’re proud to bring our quality and safe services to Italy’s largest airport, nearly doubling our operations in the country. This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of our team, including our newly onboarded colleagues. Together, we look forward to enhancing passenger and ground handling services at this key international gateway.”
Strengthening dnata’s Global Reach
The launch of operations at FCO makes Rome dnata’s second-largest ground handling station worldwide. The company, which provides services across more than 90 airports in 16 countries, continues to strengthen its global presence.
Clive Sauvé-Hopkins, CEO of dnata Airport Operations, highlighted the significance of this move, stating, “Expanding into Rome is a key step in our growth strategy. This investment underscores our commitment to delivering world-class service and operational excellence. I want to thank the Airport Handling team for their hard work in making this launch a success.”
A Growing Aviation Leader
dnata, which operates in more than 30 countries, continues to scale its aviation services across ground handling, cargo, travel, catering, and retail. In the past year alone, the company handled over 778,000 aircraft turns, moved 2.9 million tonnes of cargo, and served 123 million meals worldwide.
With its strategic expansion into Rome Fiumicino, Airport Handling is set to redefine ground services in Italy, reinforcing dnata’s reputation as a global leader in aviation support.
