In just a few days, Vienna Airport will serve as the venue hosting two important industry events. On Monday, 9 October 2023, the airport is inviting the entire air cargo community to the first Vienna Cargo Day.

News and trends on the issues of sustainability, hydrogen, and digitalization will be presented and discussed together with all key players in the sector. Furthermore, the latest news about the new Air Cargo Academy in the Vienna Airport City will be announced.

The event in the AirportCity Space at Vienna Airport will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Moreover, FlyPharma Europe 2023 sponsored by the Vienna AirportCity will be held from 10-11 October 2023.

It will offer participants the possibility to visit the state-of-the-art pharmaceutical processing facilities at Vienna Airport, amongst other attractions.

At the Vienna Caro Day current and future developments in cargo handling, the cargo community, and the airport city with respect to sustainability and digitalization will be presented by Michael Zach, Vice President Sales, Finance & Cargo, Ground Handling & Cargo Operations of Vienna Airport, Wolfgang Scheibenpflug, Senior Vice President Real Estate & Landside Management of Vienna Airport and Peter Reulbach, Senior Manager Cargo Business Development and Cargo Community Manager of Vienna Airport.

The speech of Prof. Sebastian Krummer, Head of the Institute for Transport and Logistics Management of the Vienna University of Economics and Business will shift the focus to the possibilities opened up by hydrogen as an energy source as well as an emission-free supply chain. The cargo community includes airlines, freight forwarders, handling, and customer agents as well as transport companies from all over Austria as well as air cargo specialists from neighbouring Eastern European countries and Central Europe.

“The close cooperation of everyone involved in the air cargo transport chain is a major advantage of our hub. The first Vienna Caro Day provides us with a new platform enabling the regular exchange of views and further impetus on current issues such as sustainability and digitalization,” states Michael Zach, Vice President Sales, Finance & Cargo, Ground Handling & Cargo Operations at Vienna Airport.

“Today the Vienna AirportCity ranks among the most successful such airport cities in Europe and something we are proud of. At the same time, we still have a lot to do, especially when it comes to the further implementation of sustainable practices and innovative technologies in real estate development. We still have unused capacities available at Vienna Airport for further business location projects,” explains Wolfgang Scheibenpflug, Senior Vice President Real Estate and Landside Management at Vienna Airport.

Thanks to extensive investments in its logistics infrastructure, Vienna Airport has emerged as a global cargo gateway for Central and Eastern Europe and an important cargo hub for nearby Eastern Europe logistics routes. Vienna Airport is served by leading cargo airlines, especially for intercontinental transport. These include Lufthansa Cargo, Emirates Cargo, Eva Air Cargo, Korean Air Cargo, Asiana, Cargolux, Turkish Cargo, Qatar Airways Cargo and Silk Way West Airlines. Thanks to its Vienna Airport Pharma Handling Center (VPHC), the airport also operates its own competence centre for handling temperature-sensitive air cargo without interrupting the cold chain. In its role as this year’s host of the “FlyPharma Europe” conference, which will take place from 10-11 October 2023, directly following the Air Cargo Day, Vienna Airport is highlighting its status as an important hub for the transport of pharmaceutical products.
