LATAM Cargo has flown almost 25,000 tons of flowers from Latin America in time for Valentine’s Day, an increase of 36% on last year.

In 21 days between 18 January and 7 February, LATAM Cargo had 418 take-offs from Quito, Bogota and Medellin, doubling the regular frequencies from Colombia and Ecuador to the USA and Europe.

In preparation for Valentine’s Day, LATAM Cargo temporarily added two additional freighters to its fleet, bringing the total to 21, and its Miami airport hub had its cold storage warehouses modernised.

Commenting on the results, Claudio Torres Faini, International Commercial Director of South America for LATAM Cargo Chile, says, “This achievement was possible thanks to a close collaboration with customers, suppliers and the airport team, as well as the care and infrastructure needed for perishables. Together, a successful season was achieved.”

From Colombia, close to 13,000 tons of flowers including roses, carnations and chrysanthemums were sent from Antioquia and Cundinamarca in over 220 flights, up 19% on last year.

Capacity from Ecuador was increased significantly with over 200 flights exporting nearly 11,500 tons, almost double the 2023 Valentine’s Day season.
