Leipzig/Halle Airport recorded the strongest growth in volumes of airfreight in September for eight years as all-cargo operators continue to ramp up services at the airport.
The German airport — Europe’s fifth-busiest cargo hub and a major base for DHL Express — said its airfreight volumes increased by 18.6% year on year during the month to 120,758 tonnes, while over the first nine months of the year it has recorded growth of around 8.1% on last year to 986,389 tonnes.
Both scheduled cargo services and freight charter traffic are supporting this development, the airport said.
Overall, about 60 cargo airlines fly to the airport and serve a network of routes that covers more than 280 destinations around the globe. Freight volumes at Leipzig/Halle Airport amounted to approximately 1.2m tonnes in 2019.
