The International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA) has collaborated with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to announce the appointment of Marco Alvarenga and Paul Cheetham as cargo agency commissioners.
Established in 1992, the Cargo Agency Commissioner Program operates within the framework of the IATA Cargo Agency Program, overseen by the Cargo Agency Conference (CAConf).
The cargo agency commissioner serves as an impartial mediator, jointly appointed by IATA and FIATA, responsible for conducting reviews on decisions and actions affecting agents and intermediaries participating in the Cargo Agency Program and Intermediary programs. This includes oversight of the Cargo Accounts Settlement System (CASS).
Dispute resolution services, facilitated by the commissioner, are available upon request to IATA registered cargo intermediaries, including CASS associates. Additionally, these services extend to potential cargo intermediaries, IATA, and its member airlines.
Marco Alvarenga, appointed for Area 1 & 2, covering the Western Hemisphere (excluding the US), Europe, Middle East, and Africa, brings over 35 years of leadership experience within IATA. Recently retired from the Association, Alvarenga assumes this crucial role.
Paul Cheetham, appointed for Area 3, which includes Asia, Australia, and South-West Pacific, is a seasoned logistics professional with over 40 years of experience. He has served as a director and managing director in various companies within the air cargo industry.
These appointments are set to take effect on January 1, 2024. The newly appointed commissioners are expected to play a pivotal role in upholding the integrity and effectiveness of the Cargo Agency Program and associated initiatives.
