Port Polska Secures Building Permits for Airport Rescue and Firefighting Stations

Port Polska has secured building permits for two Airport Rescue and Firefighting Service (ARFF) stations that will support operations at Poland’s planned new airport, marking another milestone in the development of the country’s flagship aviation infrastructure project.

Issued by the Mazovian Voivode, the permits cover the construction of two strategically located fire stations designed to ensure rapid emergency response across the airport’s dual-runway layout. The approval follows the completion of the statutory administrative process, including design verification, regulatory consultations and environmental compliance assessments.

The main Airport Rescue and Firefighting Service station will be built in the village of Skrzelew, within the Teresin municipality, providing operational coverage for the northern runway and associated airside movement areas. In addition to responding to aircraft incidents and airport emergencies, the facility will coordinate the restoration of operational readiness following emergencies and provide reinforcement to the satellite station when required.

Designed as a two-storey building with a gross floor area of nearly 5,300 square metres, the main station will serve as the primary emergency response centre for the airport.

A second, satellite fire station will be constructed in the Wiskitki municipality, spanning the villages of Duninopol and Podbuszyce. The facility will provide immediate emergency coverage for the southern runway, enabling firefighting and rescue operations to commence without delay while additional resources are dispatched from the main station.

The satellite station will also comprise two storeys and provide more than 2,100 square metres of gross floor area.

Both stations have been designed to meet stringent airport safety requirements by enabling specialist rescue vehicles, fully crewed by Airport Rescue and Firefighting Service personnel, to leave the station within the shortest possible time after an emergency alarm is activated. Rapid response capability remains one of the fundamental operational requirements for maintaining airport safety and regulatory compliance.

Beyond the station buildings themselves, the project includes the development of all associated technical infrastructure, utility installations, internal road networks, engineering works and landscaping to ensure the facilities are fully operational from the day they enter service.

The approval of the building permits allows the project to move into its next implementation phase, supporting the broader development of Poland’s new airport, which is being designed as a major passenger, cargo and multimodal transport hub. Once completed, the Airport Rescue and Firefighting Service infrastructure will form a critical component of the airport’s operational readiness, ensuring compliance with international aviation safety standards while supporting future passenger and cargo aircraft operations.
