Swissport’s air cargo center at Frankfurt Airport (FRA) has once again achieved the prestigious CEIV Pharma certification from IATA (International Air Transport Association).
This certification serves as a testament to the company’s unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards of quality and security in the handling of sensitive pharmaceuticals.
Andreas Behnke, head of Swissport Cargo Services for Germany and Austria at Frankfurt Airport, emphasized the significance of this recertification, affirming Swissport’s dedication to delivering safe, efficient, and dependable pharmaceutical logistics solutions to its global clientele.
Behnke also highlighted the positive implications of Swissport’s commitment to Frankfurt Airport, underscoring the benefits for airline partners, logistics collaborators, and the airport itself. This further solidifies Frankfurt’s pivotal role as a key hub for maintaining robust temperature-controlled supply chains.
Swissport inaugurated its expansive 17,000 sq m cargo facility in November 2020, demonstrating resilience by supporting critical pharma logistics throughout the pandemic. Notably, the facility houses the Swissport Pharma Center, featuring a dedicated 1,560 sq m area tailored for temperature-controlled pharmaceutical shipments.
Within this area, 1,300 sq m is allocated for products requiring storage temperatures of 15°C to 25°C, while 260 sq m caters to those necessitating 2°C to 8°C conditions.
Swissport has made significant investments in digitalization and state-of-the-art equipment at its Frankfurt facility, aiming to streamline operations and enhance efficiency across the global logistics chain. The warehouse, strategically located in CargoCity South, boasts direct tarmac access and advanced handling technology, facilitating seamless air cargo operations.
The facility’s automated material handling system (MHS) has the capability to store and retrieve up to 115 main deck unit load devices (ULDs), further optimizing logistical processes.
In a proactive measure to reduce emissions, Swissport employs an all-electric fleet of ground service vehicles in its operations. Moreover, the facility hosts the largest photovoltaic system at Frankfurt Airport, generating over 1.5m kWh of sustainable solar energy annually.
Expanding its scope of services, Swissport has recently introduced freight forwarder handling services at its Frankfurt location, further augmenting its comprehensive offerings in the air cargo sector.
