WestJet Cargo has become the official transport provider for The Beagle Alliance, ensuring the safe and compassionate relocation of beagles rescued from research facilities across Canada. The collaboration supports the alliance’s mission of offering these dogs a chance at a life outside of laboratories and in loving, family homes.
Initially, The Beagle Alliance had concerns about air travel for their rescued dogs. However, after a successful transport of founder Lori Cohen’s own rescue dog, Poppy, from Vancouver to Winnipeg, their stance shifted. This positive experience solidified WestJet Cargo as the alliance’s preferred transport partner.
“Canada’s vast geography makes ground transport impractical for many rescues. WestJet Cargo has proven to be a compassionate and reliable partner, helping us ensure our dogs reach their new families quickly and comfortably,” said Cohen.As part of their partnership, WestJet Cargo plans to transport 50 rescued beagles this year. The airline’s pet transport teams are dedicated to ensuring the animals’ well-being, providing comfortable, temperature-controlled cargo spaces and expert care during their journey.
In addition to transport services, WestJet Cargo will assist The Beagle Alliance in raising awareness, supporting fundraising efforts, and expanding their rescue operations. The airline’s commitment to animal welfare is evident in their strict safety protocols and the attentive care provided to all animals in transit.

Since 2022, WestJet Cargo has successfully transported eight beagles to their new homes, with the most recent journey taking a beagle from Winnipeg to Vancouver.
