In a groundbreaking move for the Taiwanese air freight sector, Grand Forwarding Limited has become the first company in Taiwan to join the Air France KLM Martinair Cargo Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Programme. This milestone marks a significant step towards sustainability in the industry, demonstrating the increasing commitment of Taiwanese companies to reducing carbon emissions.

Focus on Reducing Carbon Emissions

The SAF Programme, championed by Air France KLM Martinair Cargo, focuses on reducing carbon emissions through the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel. SAF is an alternative fuel made from sustainable waste and residues, offering a substantial reduction in emissions—up to 75% less compared to traditional aviation fuel, according to various studies.

Increased Awareness and Global Accessibility

“This milestone signifies an increased awareness among Taiwanese companies about partnering with us to make SAF accessible worldwide,” stated Air France KLM Martinair Cargo. The integration of SAF into their operations by Grand Forwarding Limited and Air France KLM Martinair Cargo is paving the way for a more sustainable future in air freight. This initiative underscores the importance of industry collaboration in addressing global environmental challenges.

Collaborative Efforts for Environmental Impact Mitigation

“Together, our collaboration paves the way for more environmentally conscious air freight and contributes to the mitigation of the air freight industry’s environmental impact,” added a representative from Air France KLM Martinair Cargo. The Cargo SAF programme enables shippers and forwarders to power a share of their flights using SAF. Customers can choose their level of engagement, ensuring their investment is fully utilized to source SAF.

Transparent and Accountable Investment

When investing in SAF, customers receive a third-party audited report linking the amount of SAF purchased to the traffic volume, with an indication of the resulting cut in carbon emissions. This transparency and accountability highlight the programme’s commitment to genuine environmental benefits.

By joining the SAF Programme, Grand Forwarding Limited is not only enhancing its sustainability efforts but also setting a precedent for other companies in Taiwan and beyond to follow. This collaboration is a significant step towards a greener future for the air freight industry.
