Emirates SkyCargo Strengthens Kenya’s Export Connectivity to Global Markets

Emirates SkyCargo plays a pivotal role in supporting Kenya’s export sector, providing reliable air transport for fresh-cut flowers, produce, tea, and coffee. Through temperature-controlled handling, dedicated cargo facilities, and coordinated logistics, the airline ensures timely delivery while maintaining product quality, enabling Kenyan exporters to meet international demand year-round.

As Kenya’s economy benefits from strong international demand for horticultural and agricultural products, air cargo capacity has become essential. Flowers, avocados, vegetables, tea, and coffee are highly sensitive to temperature fluctuations and handling delays, requiring specialised processes from origin to destination. Emirates SkyCargo’s cold-chain procedures and fast transfer times safeguard these perishable products, helping growers, cooperatives, and small-to-medium enterprises scale production, fulfil large contracts, and sustain employment across the sector.

Expanding Air Connectivity

Emirates currently operates two daily passenger flights from Nairobi, increasing to three daily services from 1 March 2026, complemented by three weekly dedicated freighters to Amsterdam. Together, these services provide a combined weekly cargo capacity of 1,100 tonnes, enabling rapid delivery of Kenya’s export products to key European markets. The dedicated freighter operations, flying directly from Nairobi to Amsterdam, reduce transit times and streamline customs and logistics processes, particularly during peak export periods like Valentine’s Day.

“Reliable air connectivity is critical for Kenyan exporters to meet international market expectations,” said a spokesperson for Emirates SkyCargo. “Our integrated operations, including temperature-controlled handling and dedicated cargo facilities, allow growers and cooperatives to maintain product integrity while scaling production to fulfil both seasonal and year-round demand.”

Cold-Chain Expertise and Operational Excellence

Emirates’ Nairobi facilities are designed to manage high volumes of perishable cargo efficiently. Every shipment passes through carefully controlled cold-chain environments, ensuring freshness and quality from the moment it is accepted at origin to its delivery at overseas destinations. Real-time operational monitoring and fast transfers minimise dwell times, which is particularly critical during periods of elevated demand, such as the Valentine’s flower peak.

By maintaining frequent scheduled flights alongside dedicated freighter capacity, Emirates SkyCargo provides consistent, year-round support to Kenya’s export sector. This operational reliability enables exporters to plan production cycles, fulfil large contracts, and sustain employment in a sector that is a significant contributor to the country’s economy.

Supporting Global Trade

Beyond flowers, Emirates SkyCargo facilitates the movement of Kenyan produce, tea, coffee, and other premium goods to international markets, reinforcing Kenya’s position as a key supplier in global supply chains. By providing dependable air cargo services, the airline strengthens the value chain for exporters while helping businesses expand their reach worldwide.

As international demand for Kenyan products continues to grow, Emirates SkyCargo remains committed to delivering reliable, high-quality air cargo solutions from Nairobi to markets around the world, ensuring that Kenya’s exports reach global consumers in optimal condition.
