Mexican freighter operator deploys Airbus A330-200P2F for DHL as it expands its ACMI and international cargo services
Mexican cargo airline Awesome Cargo has launched its first Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance and Insurance (ACMI) operation for DHL, marking a further step in the carrier’s expansion into the international ACMI and charter market.
The inaugural operation connected Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) in the United States with Leipzig/Halle Airport (LEJ) in Germany, using an Airbus A330-200P2F freighter registered XA-DUR. Flight-tracking data confirms the aircraft began operating the Cincinnati–Leipzig rotation in September.
The operation adds DHL ACMI flying to Awesome Cargo’s growing portfolio of cargo activities and strengthens the Mexican carrier’s presence on transatlantic freight routes.
Expanding ACMI Platform
Awesome Cargo has been developing its business around several cargo models, including ACMI leasing, charter operations and dedicated cargo services.
The airline’s official website describes its ACMI offering as the leasing of aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance to other airlines, allowing customers to scale air transportation capacity according to their requirements. Its wider charter operation provides cargo transportation solutions for airlines, charter brokers, freight forwarders and direct customers.
The DHL operation represents the latest development in that strategy, following Awesome Cargo’s earlier ACMI activity for Avianca Cargo during the peak flower season. The carrier has also handled time-sensitive perishables and other specialist cargo, including flowers, seafood and live animals.
A330 Freighter Adds Long-Haul Capacity
The DHL operation is being performed with Awesome Cargo’s A330-200P2F, XA-DUR. The aircraft is the carrier’s third fully converted Airbus A330-200 passenger-to-freighter aircraft, according to Awesome Cargo.
The deployment of the widebody freighter gives Awesome Cargo additional flexibility for international operations while supporting DHL’s cargo network through ACMI capacity.
The Cincinnati–Leipzig connection also links two important logistics gateways. Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky is a major US cargo airport, while Leipzig/Halle is a key European express and freight hub.
Building Long-Term Cargo Partnerships
Awesome Cargo has indicated that ACMI is becoming an increasingly important part of its business strategy as it seeks to work with airlines, integrators and logistics companies requiring additional freighter capacity.
The company’s expanding portfolio combines ACMI flying with long-term e-commerce charter operations and the transportation of time-critical cargo.
The carrier’s first ACMI programme for Avianca Cargo earlier this year provided experience in supporting seasonal demand, particularly during the peak flower-shipping period. Awesome Cargo subsequently moved into another stage of ACMI development with the DHL operation.
Strengthening Mexico’s International Cargo Presence
The launch of DHL ACMI operations marks another milestone for Awesome Cargo as it develops its international freighter platform.
With A330-200P2F aircraft operating across its network and an expanding mix of ACMI, charter and specialist cargo services, the carrier is positioning itself to provide additional capacity to airlines, integrators and logistics customers.
The Cincinnati–Leipzig operation adds another international link to that growing portfolio and underscores the increasing role of ACMI providers in supplying flexible capacity to global air cargo networks.
