Samsung SDS has agreed to acquire a 100% stake in South Korean air cargo consolidator Woojung Air, expanding its air freight capabilities and creating opportunities to integrate cargo handling operations with its digital logistics platforms.
The South Korean IT and logistics company signed a share purchase agreement on 12 October, according to local media reports. The transaction is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, although the purchase price has not been disclosed.
Founded in 1999, Woojung Air specialises in air freight consolidation, combining smaller shipments from multiple customers into larger consignments for transport. Based at Incheon International Airport, the company has cargo space agreements with major airlines and operates a logistics centre equipped with regulated agent facilities for cargo handling and security screening.
Woojung Air also operates iNomad, its own digital air logistics platform, which provides services including shipment tracking and freight management.
The acquisition is intended to strengthen Samsung SDS’s air freight forwarding business by combining Woojung Air’s consolidation expertise and cargo handling infrastructure with the group’s existing logistics network and digital capabilities.
Incheon International Airport is expected to play a central role in the strategy, supporting the movement of South Korean exports as well as cargo originating elsewhere in Asia and routed through the airport.
Samsung SDS also plans to explore closer integration between Woojung Air’s iNomad platform and Cello Square, its digital logistics platform. The integration could improve operational visibility and streamline shipment management across the air freight supply chain.
The companies already have an established working relationship. In June 2022, Samsung SDS and Woojung Air signed a memorandum of understanding to expand their international air logistics businesses and improve digital services for freight customers.
Under that agreement, Woojung Air’s shipment tracking and freight charge information were to be incorporated into Cello Square, enabling users to monitor key stages of an air freight shipment. These included cargo arrival, airport clearance, aircraft loading, arrival at the destination airport, unloading and storage at the destination warehouse.
The companies also outlined plans to develop international air logistics services to support South Korean e-commerce businesses seeking to expand into overseas markets, including the United States, Japan, Australia and Brazil.
The acquisition builds on that collaboration, giving Samsung SDS greater direct access to specialised air cargo consolidation capabilities and associated infrastructure as it seeks to expand its logistics business.
Further details of the transaction, including its financial terms, have not been disclosed.
