ACIA Aero Leasing (ACIA) has completed the delivery of the second of two ATR 72-212 Large Cargo Door (LCD) freighters to Australian Fly-in-Fly-out (FIFO) and cargo air charter operator, Aerlink.
Aerlink received the first ATR 72 LCD in January, with the second aircraft delivered this month, according to the Dublin-based lessor.
These aircraft will be operated by Qantas under a contract with Australia Post.
“Mark Dunnachie, ACIA’s Senior Vice President of Commercial, described the deal as an exciting transaction for Aerlink that will strengthen its diverse fleet, capitalizing on ACIA’s proven expertise in converting ATR 72 regional aircraft.
“Our continued partnership with Aerlink will solidify its position as the premier operator of ATR aircraft in Australia and significantly boost Qantas’ freight and cargo operations, fulfilling a vital Australia Post contract,” he said.
Ann Elliott, Aerlink’s CEO, highlighted the ATR 72 LCD’s significant potential, enabling the company to expand its services in Australia and beyond, as demonstrated by securing contracts with Qantas and Australia Post.
“We are thrilled to extend our relationship with ACIA and grow our portfolio of ATR aircraft leases from them. They have consistently delivered top-quality aircraft, meeting our schedule for contract start despite today’s challenging supply environment,” she commented.
The ATR 72 LCD freighters, capable of landing on smaller, unpaved runways, will enhance Aerlink’s operations within Australia Post’s network.
Planespotters notes that Aerlink operates seven ATR 72s, including two freighters leased from ACIA and five passenger models, with two more leased from ACIA. Additionally, Aerlink maintains an ATR 42 cargo aircraft in service.
The demand for regional freighters, particularly the ATR 72 family, remains robust due to their operational capabilities.
