In a significant development, Air Cargo Netherlands (ACN) is set to establish a branch dedicated to companies involved in the air freight sector in the Maastricht region. This initiative is driven by approximately ten companies that feel their interests have not been adequately represented in discussions concerning the future of Maastricht Airport. The aim is to provide the South Limburg cargo community with a global presence in the logistics air freight market centered around Maastricht Airport.
Arjan Hage, representing MLS, expressed enthusiasm about the venture, stating, “Maastricht Airport is situated in a highly enterprising region with a robust international focus. I firmly believe that by consolidating our efforts in the air freight sector locally, it will be beneficial for us, the region, and the airport. Collaborative efforts will enhance the international visibility of the air freight market in the Maastricht Aachen Airport region, bolstering the logistics prowess of South Limburg as a key logistics hub.”
Maarten van As, Managing Director of ACN, welcomed the establishment of the new branch, emphasizing the strategic location of Maastricht Aachen Airport in the Euregion. He noted that the airport has proven itself as the second cargo airport in the Netherlands in recent years. Van As highlighted the potential for a stronger logistics ecosystem in the region through collaboration between the airport, local forwarders, and logistics partners. Moreover, he pointed out opportunities for coordinating logistics processes and systems with Schiphol Airport, with ACN aspiring to play a connecting role.
The inauguration of the cargo community is set to take place on December 13, with ACN Maastricht organizing an opening meeting in Beek. Around 30 members and prospective members, including forwarders, truckers, handlers, airlines, and logistics service providers, will be present. The initiative is open to relevant government services as well. Arjan Hage emphasized that aside from fostering connections and reinforcing the identity of the South Limburg air freight chain, the collaboration presents opportunities to streamline processes and enhance efficiency in working methods. Understanding each other’s interests, he noted, enables mutual support and strengthening of the industry.
