Avolon has announced a major order for 100 LEAP-1A engines from CFM International at the Dubai Airshow 2025, reinforcing its long-term strategy to expand and modernise its Airbus A320neo portfolio. The engines will power 50 A320neo family aircraft currently on order, further strengthening the lessor’s position as a leader in next-generation, fuel-efficient fleet solutions.
The LEAP-1A engine, featuring advanced technologies such as composite fan blades and ceramic matrix composites, delivers a 15% improvement in fuel efficiency and a corresponding reduction in carbon emissions compared with earlier-generation CFM56 engines. The upgrade supports Avolon’s sustainability ambitions as global aviation intensifies its focus on lower-emission operations.
Avolon has been a CFM customer since 2010 and currently manages 99 LEAP-powered A320neo family aircraft. With this latest commitment, its order pipeline now includes an additional 163 LEAP-equipped aircraft. As of 30 September 2025, the company’s total A320neo family orderbook stood at 347, with 149 units already in service.
“Our sustained partnership with CFM International underpins Avolon’s strategy to reduce emissions and support the demand we see from our airline customers’ growth and replacement needs through 2030 and beyond,” said Andy Cronin, CEO of Avolon.
CFM International President and CEO Gaël Méheust welcomed the renewal of confidence: “This order reflects the strength of our long-standing partnership and our commitment to delivering world-class products that meet the needs of our airline customers for efficiency, reliability, and sustainability.”
The purchase underscores Avolon’s continued investment in cutting-edge engine technology as airlines accelerate their transition to modern, environmentally efficient fleets.
