Azul Logística is preparing for the next phase of its cargo expansion strategy with the introduction of four additional Airbus A321 freighters, strengthening its position in Brazil’s domestic air freight market while opening new opportunities across the Americas.

The cargo division of Azul Linhas Aéreas announced earlier this year that it would expand its A321 freighter fleet from two aircraft to six. The airline received its first Airbus A321F last year, with additional aircraft scheduled for delivery from this year through to 2027.

The new-generation freighters are replacing Azul’s previous fleet of converted Boeing 737 freighters, the last of which was retired in 2025. The airline had also previously operated five Embraer E195 Class F “preighters” to support cargo demand during earlier stages of its logistics development.

The fleet modernisation forms part of Azul Logística’s wider strategy to expand e-commerce, express delivery and specialised cargo services by leveraging Azul Linhas Aéreas’ extensive domestic network.

With more than 800 domestic flights operating daily and over 100,000 shipments handled each day, Azul is positioning its freighter fleet to provide additional capacity on high-demand routes while improving connectivity across Brazil and neighbouring markets.

Global GSA Group, which supports Azul’s international cargo sales activities, said the additional Airbus A321 freighters would create new opportunities to optimise operations and expand regional coverage.

“Azul already operates over 800 domestic flights per day and handles more than 100,000 shipments each day,” said Aytekin Saray, chief executive of Global GSA Group.

“With four new freighters soon being delivered, we will be able to optimise Azul Logística’s operations using data analytics and other CargoTech software solutions to determine sustainable strategies for key routes operating at peak capacity, while supporting business development, market expertise and regional coordination across Latin America.”

The expanded fleet will support key domestic services, including high-frequency operations to Manaus and scheduled flights to Belém, while also enabling the development of new international routes.

Azul has already launched scheduled services to Santiago, Chile, and Buenos Aires, Argentina, with planned expansion to Lima, Peru, and Montevideo, Uruguay.

The airline also continues to operate specialised charter flights for niche cargo requirements, including the transportation of hatching eggs and equipment for international touring productions.

Izabel Reis, director of Azul Logística, said the performance of the Airbus A321 freighter had demonstrated the aircraft’s suitability for the airline’s growth plans.

“The A321 freighter offers the ideal versatility and size, allowing Azul to provide market solutions where they are most needed,” Reis said.

She added that strong initial performance following the first aircraft delivery at Campinas Airport reinforced the decision to expand and modernise the fleet with additional aircraft.

The airline is also preparing to launch weekly A321 freighter services between Campinas’ Viracopos Airport and Lima Airport during the second half of 2026. The new route is expected to strengthen trade links between Brazil and the Andean region while providing additional options for freight forwarders.

Saray said Lima represented a strategic addition to Azul Logística’s network due to strong cargo demand between Peru, Europe and Brazil.

“These new services will offer more connectivity and open up opportunities for forwarders throughout the region,” he said.

The expansion also supports Global GSA Group’s broader growth strategy in South America, improving logistics links for sensitive, industrial and high-value cargo moving between Brazil and markets across the Americas.

With the A321 freighter fleet expansion, Azul Logística is aiming to build a more flexible and efficient regional cargo network, combining modern aircraft capacity with Brazil’s extensive domestic connectivity.
