BIFA Appoints Steve Murray as Regional Representative for Newly Created Central Region

The British International Freight Association (BIFA) has appointed Steve Murray as regional representative for a newly established Central Region, a move designed to strengthen regional engagement and enhance support for the association’s corporate members across the Midlands and surrounding areas.

The creation of the new region reflects BIFA’s ongoing strategy to improve connectivity with its membership base by ensuring more focused, accessible representation across the UK’s freight forwarding and logistics sector.

Expanded Regional Structure

The Central Region will cover a broad geographical area that includes members located in the Home Counties north of London, extending northwards to Nottingham, west to Birmingham, and east to Peterborough. By redefining regional boundaries, BIFA aims to provide more tailored support to members operating within these key logistics corridors.

The restructuring also reduces the geographic span previously overseen by Andrew Melton, who until now represented BIFA members across a large territory stretching from north of Milton Keynes to the Scottish borders. Under the new structure, Melton will concentrate specifically on supporting members throughout Northern England, enabling a more focused approach to regional engagement.

Extensive Industry Experience

Steve Murray joins BIFA with significant experience across the global logistics and supply chain sector. Over the course of his career, he has held senior leadership positions responsible for managing multi-country operations and multi-functional teams, giving him a broad understanding of the operational and strategic challenges faced by freight forwarders.

Most recently, Murray worked with FedEx Logistics, the freight forwarding division of FedEx. Prior to this role, he held several senior positions within International Supply Chain (ISC), a division of DHL, where he was involved in managing complex international logistics operations. Earlier in his career, Murray also worked at Exel, further strengthening his experience across supply chain management and freight services.

Supporting Members Across the Midlands

Commenting on the appointment, Steve Parker, Director General of BIFA, said the association is committed to strengthening its engagement with members across all regions.

“We’re delighted to welcome Steve as our regional representative for a newly created region,” Parker said.

“We have made clear our strategy to further raise BIFA’s profile with our members, as well as enhance engagement with them.

“With multimodal expertise spanning the full supply chain process, Steve offers a deep understanding of the industry that will be of significant benefit to members across the Central Region and a valuable asset to the association.”

Strategic Focus on Member Engagement

The appointment forms part of BIFA’s broader initiative to strengthen its regional network and ensure members benefit from closer collaboration with the trade body. By establishing a dedicated representative for the Central Region, the association aims to support freight forwarders operating in one of the UK’s most important logistics hubs, home to major distribution centres, transport infrastructure and international trade routes.

Murray’s appointment is expected to play a key role in fostering stronger relationships with members, while also ensuring that industry concerns and opportunities from the Midlands and surrounding areas are effectively represented within the association.
