New Delhi, February 10th, 2013: The operator of India’s busiest airport, Delhi International Airport Pvt Ltd (DIAL) has issued a Public Notice inviting Expression of Interest (IEoI) from interested parties for the development of Cargo Village.
In continuation with its philosophy to develop Terminal 3 as an ‘Aviation Hub’, DIAL has also initiated its efforts to establish Delhi Airport as the ‘The Cargo Gateway of India’. The operator has identified areas for world class cargo infrastructure for both 1st and 2nd tier layer of overall air cargo supply chain. Cargo Terminal Operator and Airlines form the 1st tier of stakeholders while Freight forwarders and 3PL players form 2nd tier in the overall air cargo supply chain.
DIAL plans to have the Cargo Village forming 2nd tier layer in line with international practices which shall facilitate air cargo trade and offer Freight Forwarders with on-airport warehousing and office facility. This will secure an efficient transfer to and from the Cargo Terminals with faster processing efficiency. The Cargo Village Site will have a total area of land admeasuring 1,59,000 square meters (approximately). The location of the Cargo Village, in close proximity of the Cargo Terminals, will also enable freight forwarders to secure efficient transfers and make better product offers to the end customer.
All major world class airports like Amsterdam, Hong Kong, Paris, Dubai, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Beijing are also operating on Cargo Village concept.
Delhi Airport has two cargo terminals with state-of-the-art-facilities and services– the existing brownfield cargo terminal which is now completely renovated and a new greenfield cargo terminal which is under development. Phase-1A of the greenfield cargo terminal is completed and fully operational. The terminal has a fully integrated facility for domestic and international cargo with provision to handle all types of cargo: general, perishable, temperature- sensitive, valuable, dangerous goods and live animals.
