Expanding flight network
The last few weeks have seen a number of new freighter links added through HKIA.
Earlier this month, Hong Kong Air Cargo (HKAC) launched a new weekly all-cargo route between HKIA and Birmingham Airport in the UK.
The new route is served by an Airbus A330-200 freighter. This was the second UK route to be opened relatively recently by the airline, following the February launch of a London Stansted connection.
This month also saw DHL Express confirm that it was introducing new freighter flights between Hong Kong and Jakarta.
The service will be operated by a 20-tonne capacity Boeing 737-800 freighter four times a week.
The connection will see the transport of shipments – such as e-commerce – originating from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Philippines and Vietnam via the Central Asia Hub in Hong Kong, DHL Express said.
And in September Air France KLM Martinair Cargo (AFKLMP) launched a new freighter flight to Hong Kong after an absence from the airport of nine years.
The service is operated by Martinair on behalf of KLM between Schiphol and Hong Kong utilising a 110-tonne capacity Boeing 747-400 freighter.
The service will initially operate three times per week before increasing to four weekly flights at the start of the winter season on October 27.
