Hactl returns to normal operations after Covid slowdown

Hong Kong cargo handler Hactl is back up to full speed after covid quarantines resulted in a reduction in resources.

Hactl said that it is has returned to “full manning and normal operations” after a single Covid-19 case was reported on October 7 in the ramp handling team, which resulted in the quarantining of close colleagues.

Hactl said that the staff shortage affected around 20% of flights and was compounded by two typhoons on October 8 and October 13.

“The situation was progressively brought under control through increased overtime, re-scheduling of some flights, re-deployment of other ramp-trained Hactl staff and subcontracting of some duties to other operators,” the company said.

“Less than 5% of Hactl’s workforce were affected, and over 80% of flights were handled within normal timeframes. Hactl’s terminal operations were not affected. There is no truth in some reports of two-three day delays.”

The company added that it has introduced further measures to increase Covid-19 resilience: 120 sanitization devices installed with more to come; two disinfection robots for common areas; increased signage; extra cleaning staff; more frequent cleaning/sanitising of staff and common areas; and provision of additional PPE.

“Hactl apologises to all who have been inconvenienced by this situation, which was beyond its control,” the company added. “It thanks customers for their patience, understanding and cooperation, and its staff for their customary hard work and dedication which have successfully mitigated the impact on its service levels.”
