InterGlobe Aviation, the parent company of IndiGo, announced on March 23, 2026, the appointment of Aloke Singh as Chief Strategy Officer. Singh is tasked with leading the airline’s long-term strategic planning and spearheading enterprise-wide transformation initiatives designed to accelerate growth, improve operational efficiency, and enhance customer experience.
In his new role, Singh will collaborate closely with IndiGo’s leadership team to strengthen organisational agility and future-proof the carrier against a rapidly evolving and increasingly competitive global aviation market. Initially, he will report directly to Rahul Bhatia, Managing Director of IndiGo, with a planned transition to report to the next Chief Executive Officer once appointed.
Strategic leadership at a critical juncture
Singh brings more than 30 years of aviation industry experience spanning strategy, planning, and commercial functions. Most recently, he served as Managing Director and CEO of Air India Express, where he led a major transformation and drove rapid network expansion. His prior roles at Air India and Oman Air provided him with extensive experience in managing complex operational programs and large-scale organisational change.
Rahul Bhatia emphasised Singh’s strategic and operational expertise: “Aloke brings an exceptional blend of strategic vision and operational depth. His comprehensive understanding of the aviation ecosystem will be invaluable as we build a more agile, resilient, and future-ready organisation, and accelerate our next phase of growth.”
Stabilising operations and restoring trust
Singh’s appointment comes in the aftermath of a challenging operational period for IndiGo. On March 10, 2026, the airline’s CEO, Pieter Elbers, resigned following a major operational disruption in December 2025 that left over 300,000 passengers stranded due to widespread flight cancellations. The crisis was attributed to crew shortages and the introduction of new flight duty time limitations (FDTL), which disrupted scheduling and operational continuity.
Industry observers view Singh’s arrival as a decisive move to stabilise operations, strengthen workforce management, and restore IndiGo’s reputation for reliability. In addition to operational oversight, he is expected to guide the airline’s strategic expansion into international markets, leveraging his expertise in scaling operations and implementing transformative organisational initiatives.
Driving enterprise-wide transformation
As Chief Strategy Officer, Singh will play a pivotal role in aligning business units, optimising processes, and embedding a culture of performance and accountability across IndiGo. His mandate includes developing actionable strategies that balance rapid growth with operational resilience, ensuring that IndiGo maintains its position as India’s leading low-cost carrier while competing effectively on a global scale.
With Singh at the helm of strategic planning, IndiGo is set to accelerate its next phase of growth, enhance operational efficiency, and deliver a more consistent and reliable experience for millions of passengers, both domestically and internationally.
