Korean Air has introduced an advanced Application Programming Interface (API)-based solution designed to integrate its cargo management system directly with customers’ in-house platforms. The development marks a significant stride in the airline’s digital transformation strategy, enabling seamless, real-time data exchange across key operational functions.
Through the new API solution, customers can now access schedules, view rates, make reservations, and transmit waybills directly from their proprietary systems—eliminating the need to log into separate airline portals. The streamlined interface is expected to boost efficiency, reduce manual processes, and support greater supply chain transparency.
“This API integration is a key part of our digital transformation,” a Korean Air spokesperson said. “We are proactively enhancing our operations to drive innovation and reinforce our position as a leading global air cargo airline.”
The initiative follows Korean Air’s recently completed USD 1.3 billion acquisition of Asiana Airlines in December, further strengthening its competitive edge. It also aligns with the carrier’s broader strategy to meet the demands of rapid e-commerce expansion and increasing expectations for integrated, data-driven logistics.
Korean Air operates one of the industry’s most extensive networks, reaching 116 cities across 39 countries, including a dedicated freighter network serving 46 cities in 27 countries. Its fleet comprises 164 aircraft, with 23 freighters including Boeing 777Fs and 747-8Fs.
The airline has also committed to long-term fleet modernisation. In August, it placed an order for eight Boeing 777-8 freighters, followed by converting seven A350 passenger aircraft to the freighter variant, as confirmed by Airbus last month.
At its primary hub at Incheon International Airport (ICN), Korean Air Cargo operates a 100,000 sq m cargo terminal, complemented by dedicated terminals in New York, Los Angeles, Narita and Osaka. The carrier also runs the Cool Cargo Center in Incheon, a specialised temperature-controlled facility capable of handling more than 150 tonnes of perishable goods.
