Liège Airport Appoints Frédéric Brun as VP Sales & Marketing to Drive Cargo Growth and Digital Strategy

Liege Airport (LGG) has appointed Frédéric Brun as Vice President of Sales & Marketing, reinforcing its commercial leadership as the European cargo hub advances long-term expansion and digitalisation plans.

Brun succeeds Torsten Wefers, who has held the role since April 2022 and is set to depart the organisation by the end of the month. The leadership transition comes at a pivotal time for LGG as it strengthens its positioning in specialised air freight and accelerates development of its flagship “CargoLand” project.

Internal promotion ensures continuity

Brun assumed his new responsibilities this month, following three and a half years as Head of Commercial Cargo & Logistics at LGG. During this period, he played a central role in shaping the airport’s commercial strategy and cargo growth trajectory.

Before joining LGG, Brun spent nearly a decade with DSV, where he focused on international route development across multiple regions. He later served as a branch manager based in Liège, giving him deep familiarity with the airport’s cargo ecosystem and regional logistics dynamics.

LGG noted that Brun, already a member of the executive committee, will prioritise continuity in commercial strategy while driving diversification and reinforcing the airport’s leadership in specialised air freight logistics.

Focus on digitalisation and quality standards

In his expanded role, Brun is expected to spearhead initiatives aimed at advancing digitalisation across cargo operations while maintaining the high service standards that define the Liège logistics platform. These efforts align with broader industry trends toward data-driven supply chains and enhanced operational transparency.

The airport emphasised that Brun’s leadership will be instrumental in strengthening LGG’s integrated cargo ecosystem, particularly as demand grows for tailored logistics solutions in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, perishables, and e-commerce.

Leadership reshuffle across cargo operations

As part of the transition, Alexis Lapot, previously Senior Manager Cargo Sales, has been appointed Head of Commercial Cargo & Logistics, taking over Brun’s former responsibilities.

Meanwhile, changes have also been announced within LGG Connect, the airport’s air cargo community platform. Wefers has stepped down as chairman of the association, with Wilfried Jans set to assume the role. Brun will join the organisation’s leadership as Vice Chairman.

Established in December 2024, LGG Connect serves as a collaborative platform bringing together key stakeholders across the cargo value chain, including airlines, ground handlers, freight forwarders, and logistics providers. Founding members include Fresh Express, WFS, Swissport, Wallenborn, and Aviapartner.

CargoLand vision drives long-term growth

The leadership changes come as LGG continues to develop its ambitious “CargoLand” hub, a long-term infrastructure and logistics programme designed to enhance capacity, efficiency, and multimodal connectivity. The project is expected to be fully completed by 2040 and remains central to the airport’s strategy of consolidating its position as a leading European cargo gateway.

With Brun at the commercial helm, LGG is expected to maintain strategic continuity while accelerating innovation and strengthening its role in the evolving global air freight landscape.
