Maersk Air Cargo has officially launched a new airfreight route between its hub at Billund Airport in Denmark and Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport in China. The first flight on the route touched down in Zhengzhou on Friday, January 3, before returning to Billund after unloading cargo, according to China’s state press agency, Xinhua.
The carrier plans to operate six weekly flights on the new route, using Boeing 767 freighters. The primary cargo on these flights will include e-commerce goods and electronic products, though further details are awaited.
This new route marks a significant milestone as the first-ever direct air cargo connection between Henan Province in China and the Nordic region.
Maersk Air Cargo has been expanding its network in Asia in recent years. In March 2023, the airline launched scheduled services between Billund and Hangzhou, China. It followed this with new routes in April 2023, connecting Greenville-Spartanburg (US) to Shenyang Taoxian (China), as well as flights from Chicago Rockford (US) to Hangzhou.
In 2022, Amerijet began operating Maersk Air Cargo’s newly acquired Boeing 767-300F freighters on a US-China route. Additional routes, including those between Greenville-Spartanburg and Incheon, South Korea, have since been added to the partnership.
Maersk Air Cargo’s fleet, now under its full control, includes two Boeing 777 freighters and 19 Boeing 767 freighters. The airline also took delivery of two new Boeing 777 freighters in 2023, which were deployed on its Billund to Hangzhou route. The new Zhengzhou service further strengthens the carrier’s expanding footprint in global air cargo.
