MASkargo Restarts Freighter Services to Ho Chi Minh City to Strengthen Southeast Asia Connectivity

MASkargo has resumed dedicated freighter operations between Kuala Lumpur and Ho Chi Minh City, marking a renewed focus on strengthening its regional air cargo network across Southeast Asia.

The reinstated service connects Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) with Tan Son Nhat International Airport(SGN), a key regional trade gateway, and restores a route that previously formed part of MASkargo’s scheduled freighter network. The move reflects growing demand for air freight capacity within the region, particularly along high-volume intra-Asia trade lanes.

According to MASkargo, the resumption of services is designed to support the continued flow of goods between Malaysia and Vietnam, two economies that play increasingly important roles in regional manufacturing and supply chain networks. The carrier highlighted that the route will enhance connectivity at a time of sustained cargo demand, enabling more efficient movement of time-sensitive shipments across Southeast Asia.

In its operational update, MASkargo emphasized its collaboration with ground handling partner Saigon Airport Ground Services, underscoring a joint commitment to maintaining safe, reliable, and seamless cargo operations throughout the supply chain. The partnership is expected to support consistent turnaround performance and improved service reliability at Ho Chi Minh City’s primary international cargo gateway.

The reinstatement of the Kuala Lumpur–Ho Chi Minh City freighter link aligns with MASkargo’s broader strategy to expand its global cargo footprint and reinforce its presence in key regional markets. In recent years, the carrier has increasingly focused on strengthening connectivity across Asia while also developing intercontinental growth opportunities.

This network expansion is being pursued alongside broader industry collaboration initiatives. In April 2025, MASkargo announced plans to launch a joint global cargo business with Qatar Airways Cargo and IAG Cargo. The partnership is designed to integrate capabilities across the three carriers, combining infrastructure, network reach, and operational expertise.

The joint venture aims to deliver a more streamlined product offering, improved global connectivity, reduced transit times, and expanded routing options across the combined networks. It also reflects a broader industry trend toward deeper operational integration among airline partners to improve efficiency and network resilience.

MASkargo currently operates a freighter fleet consisting of three Airbus A330-200F aircraft, each with a payload capacity of approximately 61 tonnes. The aircraft are central to the airline’s medium- to long-haul cargo operations, supporting both regional and intercontinental routes.

The resumption of the Ho Chi Minh City service highlights MASkargo’s continued focus on leveraging its fleet and partnerships to respond to evolving demand patterns across Asia’s dynamic air freight market.
