The Indian freight forwarder increased its share of the country’s air export market to 6.3% in the second quarter of FY2026–27, while pursuing digital integration and expansion across Asia-Pacific.
Skyways Air Services has improved its global air freight ranking from 44th to 42nd, while increasing its share of India’s air export market from 6.2% to 6.3% in the second quarter of financial year 2026–27.
The company reported the gains on 26 October, citing chargeable-weight data from WorldACD Market Data. It attributed the improvement to capacity management, operational flexibility and demand for time-sensitive shipments, despite supply chain disruption, fluctuating fuel costs and changing trade routes.
According to Skyways, shipments of temperature-controlled pharmaceuticals, automotive components and electronics supported growth during the quarter. Demand across trade lanes linking India with Europe, the Middle East and North America also contributed to the performance.
The company said long-term capacity agreements with international carriers, including Emirates SkyCargo, Lufthansa Cargo, Saudia Cargo, Turkish Cargo and Air India Cargo, have helped it secure space for customers across key markets.
Technology underpins Skyways 2.0 strategy
Digitalisation is a central component of the company’s Skyways 2.0 strategy, which aims to connect its air and ocean freight services with express logistics, customs clearance, road transport and warehousing.
The company is advancing the use of platforms including ASAP, SLS 100X, Cargo Dash and Skart-Edge to improve integration across its service portfolio and support customers managing increasingly complex international supply chains.
Yashpal Sharma, chief executive officer and chairman-cum-managing director of Skyways Air Services, said the improved ranking and higher market share reflected customer confidence and the work of the company’s operating teams.
He said Skyways was focused not only on expanding its network but also on developing a more integrated, technology-enabled logistics platform to support Indian businesses engaged in international trade.
Expansion plans target Asia-Pacific markets
Alongside its position in India’s export market, Skyways is pursuing further international expansion across major Asia-Pacific trade centres.
The company said it is progressing plans for dedicated operations and joint ventures in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and mainland China. The proposed expansion is intended to strengthen its regional presence and improve connectivity for customers moving goods between India and other international markets.
The company’s latest performance comes as freight forwarders seek to secure reliable capacity and offer broader services in a changing trade environment. For Skyways, the combination of carrier relationships, digital integration and regional expansion is intended to support its next phase of growth.
The announced figures show a modest quarter-on-quarter increase in India air export market share alongside an improvement in global ranking. Further progress will depend on market conditions, execution of the company’s expansion plans and its ability to maintain capacity and service reliability.
