Indonesia-based Trigana Air Service has strengthened its cargo operations with the delivery of a leased Boeing 737-300 freighter from Frankfurt-based lessor Aircraft Finance Germany (AFG). The aircraft, previously operated by China’s Central Airlines, entered service with Trigana on 28 December 2025.
The 32-year-old Boeing 737-300, converted from passenger to freighter (P2F), marks Trigana’s third freighter sourced via AFG and reinforces the airline’s domestic cargo capabilities. According to AFG, the acquisition highlights the ongoing strong partnership between the lessor and Central Airlines, facilitating fleet growth across the Asia-Pacific region.
Trigana Air Service operates both passenger and cargo services, with scheduled freighter flights on selected domestic routes and charter cargo operations serving remote areas where road transport is limited. The airline’s current cargo fleet comprises one ATR 42, two 737-300 aircraft in preighter configuration, five 737-300 P2Fs, and one 737-500 cargo aircraft, according to Planespotters data.
The addition of the 737-300 freighter comes amid a broader trend of domestic cargo expansion among Indonesian carriers. In September, Garuda Indonesia Cargo integrated its operations with WebCargo by Freightos, enabling real-time e-booking for freight forwarders worldwide. In the same period, BBN Airlines Indonesia received Third-Country Operator (TCO) authorisation from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), further strengthening regional cargo connectivity.
Trigana Air’s fleet expansion reflects the growing demand for domestic airfreight solutions in Indonesia, particularly for general cargo and time-sensitive shipments across major and regional airports.
