Turkish Cargo carried 186 historical artifacts to Tokyo for display at the Ottoman Empire and Tulip Culture exhibition.
The artifacts, owned by the Dolmabahçe and Topkapı Palaces, will be displayed as part of events organised to celebrate 2019 as the “Year of Turkish Culture” across Japan.
Before the Boeing 777F flight from Istanbul to Narita airports, the valuable pieces – including the Bed of Suleiman the Magnificent and the Kaftan of Sultan Osman II – were packaged with protective materials that shielded their texture and structure.
The exhibition items, which weighed a total of 8 tonnes, were placed into 56 high-security wooden cases for the dedicated flight, whose consignments also included the Yusen Shippo Vase, Wooden Writing Table and Bamboo Mirror which were gifted to Sultan Abdulhamid II, by Emperor Meiji of Japan.
The artifacts will be on display at the National Art Center, Tokyo, between March 20 and May 20, and at the National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto, between June 14 and July 28.
