U.S.-based cargo carrier 7Air has appointed Juan Nunez as its new chief operating officer (COO) and accountable executive, marking a significant leadership development just one year after achieving FAA certification.
Nunez, who has served as the airline’s director of flight operations since October 2023, steps into the expanded role with a mandate to oversee both regulatory compliance and operational execution. His promotion reflects the company’s continued focus on strengthening governance frameworks while scaling its cargo network.
Prior to joining 7Air, Nunez held the position of director of operations at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), bringing with him deep institutional knowledge of regulatory systems and safety oversight. This background is expected to play a critical role as the airline navigates growth within a highly regulated operating environment.
In his new capacity as COO, Nunez will assume responsibility for ensuring that all operations adhere to applicable aviation regulations while optimizing efficiency across daily activities. As accountable executive, he will serve as the primary liaison with the FAA, tasked with guaranteeing that the airline maintains robust safety standards, adequate resourcing, and effective internal controls.
The company emphasized that Nunez’s leadership experience and operational expertise will be instrumental in supporting its long-term expansion strategy. His appointment comes at a time when 7Air is actively building out its cargo footprint across key regional markets.
The leadership announcement follows a notable operational milestone for the carrier. Earlier this week, 7Air completed its inaugural flight to Hewanorra International Airport in St. Lucia, establishing a new route designed to enhance cargo connectivity between Miami and the Eastern Caribbean.
The service is being operated in partnership with West Tech Shipping and is positioned to address rising demand across multiple sectors, including retail, e-commerce, agriculture, manufacturing, and distribution. Initially scheduled as a weekly operation, the route is expected to scale to twice-weekly frequencies in response to market demand.
This dual momentum—leadership reinforcement and network expansion—signals 7Air’s intent to consolidate its position within regional air cargo markets while maintaining a strong emphasis on compliance, safety, and operational excellence.
