Ethiopian Cargo has expanded its cargo capacity into Southeast Asia after adding a once a week freighter service to Thailand and Vietnam.
The African carrier started the new main deck service on 16 August, utilising a Boeing 777F which leaves Addis Ababa on a Friday at 11.55h, making calls in Hanoi and then Bangkok, before flying back to Addis Ababa on Saturday, arriving at 11.55h (all local times).
Ethiopian Group CEO, Tewolde GebreMariam said the new freighter route to Bangkok and Hanoi will supplement the daily belly cargo capacity into the cities.
The move he said will also create better connectivity for cargo transport, not just between Ethiopia and Thailand and Vietnam, but also to over 60 destinations the carrier serves in Africa.
He added: “The commencement of these flights makes Ethiopian the first African carrier to operate cargo flights from Bangkok, and will also create better opportunity for Thai and Vietnamese exporters to have a one-stop access to the 60 plus African destinations Ethiopian serves. The freighter flight will also link Bangkok and Hanoi to Europe, Asia, Middle East and the Americ
