Global aircraft charter specialist Chapman Freeborn, part of Avia Solutions Group, has successfully completed the urgent delivery of a CFM56-7B engine stand to Johannesburg, highlighting the growing importance of specialist aerospace logistics and rapid-response cargo solutions in global aircraft maintenance supply chains.
The project, completed at the end of April, was carried out in partnership with EngineStands.com, a specialist provider of engine stand leasing and aviation ground support equipment.
The shipment involved the movement of a dedicated CFM56-7B engine stand—a critical piece of aerospace handling equipment used for the transport, storage, and maintenance of one of the world’s most widely deployed commercial aircraft engines. The stand was transported from storage facilities to the customer’s designated operational site in Johannesburg under strict delivery timelines.
The assignment required an immediate logistics response, with the cargo needing to reach South Africa within a narrow operational window to support ongoing aircraft maintenance requirements.
To meet the deadline, Chapman Freeborn arranged the complete air cargo solution, securing suitable cargo capacity, coordinating shipment planning, and ensuring seamless execution of the transport operation from origin to final destination.
EngineStands.com supplied the required equipment, while Chapman Freeborn managed the end-to-end charter and cargo coordination, combining specialist aviation assets with rapid deployment logistics.
The operation underscores the growing strategic value of integrated aerospace support capabilities within Avia Solutions Group, where specialist subsidiaries can work collaboratively to meet highly time-sensitive customer demands across maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO), aircraft-on-ground (AOG), and engine logistics sectors.
Ben Cupidi, Aerospace Manager Europe at Chapman Freeborn, said the project demonstrates how cross-company collaboration can deliver immediate operational value to customers facing critical fleet support requirements.
“This delivery is a strong example of how collaboration within Avia Solutions Group enables us to respond quickly to customer requirements. By working with EngineStands.com, we were able to support this time-sensitive shipment with a fast and cost-effective solution.”
Hanna Lavinskaja, Head of EngineStands.com, added that specialist equipment availability alone is only part of the solution in today’s aviation maintenance environment.
“Having the right engine stand available is only one part of supporting the customer. In this case, close cooperation with Chapman Freeborn helped ensure that the equipment could be moved to Johannesburg quickly and reliably, demonstrating the value of working together.”
The CFM56-7B, produced by CFM International, powers the Boeing 737 Next Generation fleet and remains one of the most widely operated commercial engines globally. Supporting its maintenance infrastructure through fast access to certified handling equipment is increasingly critical as airlines continue maximising fleet utilisation amid global capacity constraints.
Industry observers note that demand for dedicated AOG and MRO logistics services has continued to rise in 2026, driven by ageing fleets, constrained spare engine availability, and longer maintenance turnaround times across global repair networks.
For Chapman Freeborn, the Johannesburg operation reinforces its expanding role in aerospace logistics beyond traditional charter operations, positioning the company as a specialist partner for time-critical aviation support across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.
As airlines, lessors, and MRO providers increasingly seek integrated logistics partners capable of moving oversized, high-value aviation equipment at short notice, collaborative projects such as this highlight how specialist aviation service providers are reshaping supply chain resilience in the global aerospace sector.
