Key Highlights

  • Dedicated charter business launched: TAM Group has established a standalone Air Charter Division to deliver tailored cargo capacity solutions for airlines, freight forwarders and logistics providers across its international network.
  • Successful pilot phase completed: Since launching charter operations in September 2024, the Miami-based team has coordinated 30 charter flights, supporting shipments ranging from perishables and pharmaceuticals to industrial equipment, live animals and high-value cargo.
  • Fernando Carballal appointed to lead expansion: Air cargo executive Fernando Carballal joins TAM Group as Group Charter Director, bringing more than a decade of experience across airlines, freight forwarding and charter brokerage.
  • Responding to changing market dynamics: The new division has been created to address increasing demand for flexible air cargo capacity amid supply chain disruptions, seasonal peaks and time-critical project shipments.
  • Strengthening airline and customer partnerships: TAM Group says the charter operation complements its GSSA business by creating additional opportunities for airline partners while providing customers with customised full and part-charter solutions.

TAM Group Launches Dedicated Air Charter Division, Names Fernando Carballal as Group Charter Director

— TAM Group has strengthened its position in the global air cargo market with the launch of a dedicated Air Charter Division, marking a strategic expansion of its service portfolio as demand grows for flexible and customised cargo capacity solutions.

The new business unit formalises a charter operation that has been under development since September 2024, when the company began offering specialised charter services from its Americas regional headquarters in Miami. Initially focused on South American markets, the operation successfully validated its business model through charter flights serving countries including Brazil and Chile.

The company said the launch reflects the increasing need for dedicated cargo capacity that complements scheduled airline networks during periods of constrained capacity, operational disruption and project-driven demand.

Charter Operations Demonstrate Growing Market Demand

During the incubation phase, TAM Group coordinated 30 charter operations, supporting customers across a broad range of industries and specialised cargo sectors.

Shipments included perishables, pharmaceuticals, industrial machinery, live animals and high-value cargo, demonstrating the versatility of dedicated charter services in meeting complex logistics requirements.

According to the company, the strong market response confirmed growing demand for flexible airfreight solutions capable of responding to seasonal peaks, supply chain disruptions and time-sensitive project cargo movements.

Fernando Carballal to Lead Charter Growth

To drive the next phase of expansion, TAM Group has appointed Fernando Carballal as Group Charter Director.

Carballal brings 11 years of experience in the air cargo sector, with expertise spanning airline operations, freight forwarding and aircraft charter brokerage. In his new role, he will lead the development of the charter business across the Americas while creating a framework for its future global integration.

Commenting on his appointment, Carballal said evolving customer expectations are reshaping the charter market.

“The charter market is evolving quickly as customers look for greater flexibility, reliability and speed in their supply chains. TAM Group has strong airline relationships, deep local market knowledge and a growing international network, which gives us a strong platform to build a charter business that delivers practical solutions for both airlines and freight forwarders. I am excited to join the team and help develop a scalable charter platform across the Americas and beyond.”

Addressing Capacity Challenges Across Global Supply Chains

The creation of a dedicated charter division comes at a time when global supply chains continue to face capacity volatility, regional bottlenecks and fluctuating demand.

TAM Group said its charter operation has been designed to bridge the gap between scheduled air cargo services and increasingly unpredictable market conditions by offering both full and part-charter solutions.

The division will support customers moving a wide variety of specialist cargo, including perishables, pharmaceuticals, electronics, humanitarian aid, aerospace components and automotive shipments. It will also assist airline partners with overflow traffic, ad hoc projects and specialised charter opportunities that complement scheduled freighter and passenger cargo operations.

Building on Regional Growth

The company views the new charter division as a natural extension of its recent expansion across the Americas.

According to Fernando Garreton, Vice President and Managing Partner of the Americas at TAM Group, the positive response to the company’s initial charter operations, combined with 23% growth across the Americas and its recent expansion into the Mexican market, created the right conditions to scale the business.

Garreton said the appointment of Carballal provides experienced leadership to connect TAM Group’s regional expertise with its longer-term ambitions for global charter development.

He also emphasised that the new division is intended to complement rather than compete with the company’s existing General Sales and Service Agent (GSSA) activities.

“Our differentiator is our tailored, solution-oriented approach. We do not simply source aircraft; we work with customers to structure practical logistics solutions. Importantly, this new charter division does not compete with our GSSA business—it strengthens it.”

For airline partners, he said the charter capability creates additional opportunities to capture overflow, project and specialist cargo without disrupting scheduled operations. For freight forwarders and logistics providers, it offers access to flexible capacity backed by regional expertise and operational execution.

Expanding Global Air Cargo Capabilities

As air cargo markets continue to evolve, charter services are becoming an increasingly important component of supply chain resilience.

By combining its airline partnerships, regional market knowledge and international network, TAM Group aims to strengthen its position as a strategic logistics partner capable of delivering tailored cargo solutions across key global trade lanes.

The company believes the new charter division will play a central role in supporting customers navigating increasingly complex supply chains while reinforcing its long-term growth strategy across the Americas and beyond.
