Air Charter Service (ACS) has successfully completed a complex Next Flight Out (NFO) logistics operation involving 20 scheduled flights to transport nearly 65 tonnes of critical energy machinery from China to the United States, demonstrating the growing role of flexible time-critical solutions in global supply chains.
The project involved the movement of heavy industrial equipment from Shanghai, China, to Nashville, Tennessee. Following a detailed assessment of available transport options, ACS’s Time Critical team evaluated both dedicated aircraft charter and scheduled cargo solutions before designing a multi-flight NFO strategy that delivered the shipment faster and at a lower cost than a full charter operation.
Rather than transporting the cargo directly into Nashville, ACS identified Chicago as the most effective gateway due to its greater availability of scheduled services, superior cargo handling capabilities and enhanced operational flexibility.

The solution consisted of 20 separate scheduled cargo departures spread across several days, with the first shipment departing only a few days after customer confirmation. The operation required close coordination between ACS’s global offices and its 24/7 operations team to monitor departures, arrivals and cargo transfers across multiple time zones.
Robert Alleman, Chief Executive of ACS Time Critical, said the project highlighted the importance of having access to multiple transport solutions and the expertise to select the most efficient option.
“One of our customers approached us with the challenge of moving 65 tonnes of machinery from Shanghai to Nashville. By evaluating both full charter and NFO alternatives, we identified a more efficient solution that met the customer’s requirements.
“The decision to route the cargo through Chicago provided more frequent flight availability, faster handling processes and a more cost-effective approach. We were able to present the complete logistics solution on the same day as receiving the enquiry, and all 20 shipments were carefully coordinated by our teams operating around the clock across different regions.”
Global Network Supports Time-Critical Cargo Movements
The entire operation was completed in just over a week, ensuring the machinery reached the United States within the customer’s required timeframe while remaining below the cost of a dedicated charter flight.
According to Alleman, although NFO services often involve individual urgent shipments, large-scale operations such as this demonstrate the adaptability of the model and the value of a strong international logistics network.
“The project demonstrates the advantage of combining a global network with a broad portfolio of premium cargo services. Customers do not necessarily require a specific transport product—they need a reliable solution that ensures their cargo arrives safely, quickly and efficiently,” he said.
The successful operation comes during a period of strong growth for ACS, with the company reporting a 35% increase in revenue during the first quarter of the year, driven largely by robust demand across its air cargo division.
As global supply chains continue to demand faster and more adaptable transport options, complex NFO solutions are becoming an increasingly important alternative to traditional charter services, particularly for urgent industrial, aerospace and energy sector shipments.
