Alaska Airlines has become the first airline to fully integrate both inbound and outbound cargo payment processes through the digital payment platform of PayCargo via the iCargo cargo management platform developed by IBS Software.

The integration marks a significant step forward in the digital transformation of air cargo financial workflows, connecting payment processing directly with cargo management systems to streamline operations for airlines, freight forwarders and logistics providers.

End-to-End Digital Payment Integration

The newly deployed system links PayCargo’s real-time payment capabilities with the iCargo platform used by Alaska Airlines to manage cargo bookings, operations and documentation.

By integrating payment workflows directly within the cargo management environment, the system allows financial transactions to be processed alongside operational cargo data. This enables faster cargo release, reduces manual reconciliation processes and minimises the risk of administrative errors.

Industry observers say the integration establishes a new benchmark for digital payment automation in the air cargo sector, where payment processing has historically relied on fragmented systems and manual verification.

Improving Cargo Release and Financial Transparency

Through the integrated platform, freight forwarders and logistics partners can now complete cargo-related payments within the same system used for shipment management.

This connected workflow delivers several operational benefits, including:

  • Faster cargo release following payment confirmation
  • Reduced reliance on manual payment verification
  • Greater accuracy in financial records
  • Improved visibility across payment and shipment data

By eliminating multiple handover points between financial and operational systems, the integration is expected to improve efficiency across Alaska Airlines’ cargo operations while simplifying the payment experience for customers.

Strategic Collaboration Between Technology Partners

The initiative builds on the long-standing partnership between PayCargo and IBS Software, which have been collaborating for several years to modernise payment processes within the global air cargo industry.

The latest development follows a recent expansion of the partnership between the two technology providers aimed at accelerating digital transformation across the cargo logistics ecosystem.

According to Ian Morgan, Vice President of Cargo at Alaska Airlines, the integration reflects the airline’s focus on improving operational efficiency and customer experience.

Morgan said the project is designed to simplify cargo transactions and create a more connected and transparent payment process for Alaska Air Cargo customers.

Advancing Digital Transformation in Air Cargo

For PayCargo, the collaboration highlights the value of integrating secure, real-time payment systems directly within logistics platforms.

Eduardo Del Riego, President and CEO of PayCargo, noted that combining payment and cargo systems allows airlines and freight forwarders to streamline financial operations while reducing delays caused by disconnected workflows.

Meanwhile, IBS Software emphasised the role of digital connectivity in improving operational performance across the air cargo value chain.

Radhesh Memon, Vice President and Head of Strategy and Product for Cargo at IBS Software, said the integration demonstrates how embedded financial tools can improve efficiency and simplify payment processes for airlines and logistics partners using the iCargo platform.

Toward a More Automated Cargo Ecosystem

The integration represents a broader shift toward digitally connected cargo ecosystems, where operational, financial and customer-facing processes are increasingly managed within unified platforms.

As airlines continue to invest in automation and digital tools, industry stakeholders expect similar integrations to become more common, helping to reduce administrative complexity and improve transparency across cargo transactions.

For Alaska Airlines, the new payment integration forms part of a wider strategy to modernise its cargo operations and deliver faster, more reliable service to freight forwarders and shippers.

By combining payment and cargo management systems into a single workflow, the airline and its technology partners are taking another step toward a more efficient and digitally integrated air cargo industry.
