American Airlines Cargo has joined the WiseTech Global CargoWise Carrier Connectivity Program, enabling freight forwarders to plan, book and manage air cargo shipments in real time directly within the CargoWise logistics execution platform.

The integration marks another significant step in the ongoing digital transformation of the global air cargo industry, aimed at reducing manual processes, improving operational efficiency and supporting greater supply chain visibility through straight-through digital processing.

Under the new direct data integration, CargoWise users will gain access to American Airlines Cargo’s schedules, rates, capacity information and booking management functions without needing to leave the CargoWise platform.

The partnership also supports broader industry initiatives focused on data standardisation and digital connectivity, including compliance with the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) ONE Record framework for seamless data sharing across the supply chain.

Advancing Real-Time Cargo Connectivity

CargoWise, developed by WiseTech Global, is one of the world’s leading logistics execution platforms and is widely used by freight forwarders, customs brokers and logistics providers globally.

According to WiseTech Global, CargoWise customers include 23 of the world’s 25 largest global freight forwarders, making the platform a major digital gateway for international cargo bookings and supply chain management.

The new integration with American Airlines Cargo allows freight forwarders to conduct end-to-end shipment management functions — including planning, booking, confirmation, modification and final execution — through a single connected interface.

The system also enables digital transmission of Master Air Waybills and supports real-time shipment data exchange between forwarders and the airline.

Industry analysts note that direct airline-platform integrations are becoming increasingly important as the air cargo sector accelerates efforts to eliminate manual booking processes, reduce data duplication and improve shipment accuracy.

The adoption of straight-through processing is viewed as a key objective for airlines and logistics providers seeking faster, more transparent and digitally connected cargo operations.

Expanding Digital Access to a Global Cargo Network

American Airlines Cargo operates one of the largest passenger belly cargo networks globally, transporting freight across major markets in the United States, Europe, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Latin America and Asia.

The airline supports a broad range of cargo commodities, including pharmaceuticals, perishables, e-commerce shipments and other time-sensitive freight.

Its network includes temperature-controlled handling capabilities in more than 180 markets worldwide, supported by over 180 international widebody flights operating daily during the peak summer season.

Roger Samways, Vice President Commercial for American Airlines Cargo, said the CargoWise integration will make it easier for customers to access the airline’s global network while simplifying booking processes.

“With a global network operating over 180 international widebody flights daily during the peak summer season, American Airlines Cargo delivers the scale and reliability customers need,” Samways stated.

“Our seamless integration with CargoWise brings that network directly into customers’ workflows, reducing complexity and making it easier to access capacity and do business with American Airlines Cargo worldwide.”

The airline said the integration forms part of its broader strategy to improve digital customer experience and support increasingly data-driven supply chain operations.

Supporting Industry-Wide Digital Transformation

WiseTech Global described the partnership as another important milestone in the air cargo sector’s transition toward fully digitised logistics processes.

Jorre Cobelens, Vice President – Logistics Data, AI and Connectivity at WiseTech Global, highlighted the strategic importance of the North American air freight market and the growing need for real-time digital connectivity across the supply chain.

“North America is the second largest air freight market in the world, making it an important region for WiseTech and our CargoWise customers,” Cobelens said.

“American Airlines Cargo is one of the pioneers leading the way to remove manual processes as the supply chain moves toward the greater efficiency, accuracy and agility of straight-through processing and we are excited to support their digital strategies.”

Cobelens added that the direct data integration also supports IATA’s ONE Record initiative, which aims to establish a unified standard for digital cargo data sharing across the global aviation industry.

“Now, the many freight forwarders who use CargoWise can easily book and manage shipments with American Airlines Cargo without leaving the platform,” he said.

“The direct data integration enables the airline’s customers to access rich real-time data to research, book and modify bookings through to final execution and digital transmission of the Master Air Waybill.”

Digitalisation Becoming Central to Cargo Operations

The integration reflects a wider shift across the air cargo industry as airlines, freight forwarders and technology providers increasingly invest in digital connectivity, automation and real-time data sharing.

Manual booking processes and fragmented communication systems have historically contributed to inefficiencies, delays and limited visibility across international cargo operations.

Industry stakeholders believe direct digital integrations between airlines and logistics platforms will play an increasingly important role in improving operational agility, reducing administrative workloads and enhancing customer experience.

The adoption of standards such as ONE Record is also expected to accelerate as airlines and supply chain partners seek more interoperable and data-driven logistics ecosystems capable of supporting growing global trade and e-commerce demand.
