Global air charter specialist Chapman Freeborn has announced the appointment of Tyler Porteous as Vice President of Cargo – Canada, a move aimed at strengthening the company’s cargo charter operations and expanding its presence in the Canadian market.
The appointment forms part of Chapman Freeborn’s broader strategy to enhance its cargo charter capabilities across the Americas, while deepening its engagement with regional industries that rely heavily on time-critical and specialised air freight solutions.
Driving cargo charter growth in Canada
In his new role, Porteous will lead the development of Chapman Freeborn’s cargo activities across Canada, focusing on expanding the company’s customer base, identifying new commercial opportunities, and strengthening relationships with key industry partners.
He will work closely with freight forwarders, logistics providers and shippers to deliver tailored charter solutions designed to meet complex and urgent cargo requirements.
Canada’s air cargo sector serves a wide range of industries, including energy, mining, aerospace, manufacturing and perishables, all of which frequently require flexible charter services to move oversized, high-value or time-sensitive shipments.
By reinforcing its leadership team in the region, Chapman Freeborn aims to further position itself as a trusted charter partner for Canadian businesses operating in global markets.
Extensive experience in air cargo and charter operations
Porteous brings more than 15 years of experience in air cargo and charter aviation, with a professional background spanning freighter operations, commercial development and market strategy.
Prior to joining Chapman Freeborn, he held senior roles with one of the world’s largest freighter operators, where he played a key role in establishing and expanding the company’s charter division. His responsibilities included building new customer relationships, developing operational frameworks and driving revenue growth in competitive cargo markets.
Having spent the majority of his career working within Canada’s air cargo industry, Porteous offers strong insight into local market dynamics, demand patterns and sector-specific logistics requirements.
“I’ve spent my career in the Canadian market, so I understand the customers, the demand patterns, and the industries that rely on air cargo,” Porteous said. “Chapman Freeborn has a strong global reputation, and I see real potential to grow the brand here by focusing on specific segments that haven’t been fully explored yet.”
Strengthening regional expertise
Porteous has collaborated with Chapman Freeborn teams for several years through industry partnerships, giving him a detailed understanding of the company’s customer-focused, charter-first approach to aviation logistics.
Senior leadership at the company say the appointment will enhance its ability to deliver responsive and customised charter solutions to clients across Canada and the wider Americas region.
According to Jack Burt, Porteous’ deep industry relationships and market knowledge make him a valuable addition to the organisation.
“Tyler’s experience, market knowledge and close relationships with customers in Canada make him a strong addition to our team,” Burt said. “His appointment supports our broader growth across the Americas, while ensuring we remain highly responsive to local market needs.”
Expanding presence across the Americas
Chapman Freeborn, part of the global aviation services provider Avia Solutions Group, continues to invest in strengthening its operational footprint across the Americas.
The company provides specialised air charter solutions for cargo, passenger and humanitarian operations, supporting industries that require flexible and rapid air transport capacity.
By reinforcing its Canadian leadership team, Chapman Freeborn aims to expand its reach in key cargo sectors while building long-term partnerships with logistics providers and industrial clients across the region.
The appointment of Porteous signals the company’s continued commitment to developing regional expertise and delivering customised charter services in an evolving global air cargo market.
