Michael Young, DHL Global Forwarding US chief executive
DHL Global Forwarding has appointed Michael Young as Chief Executive for the United States, effective August 1, succeeding Robert Reiter in one of the company’s most strategically important markets.
Currently serving as Chief Executive of DHL Global Forwarding UK & Ireland and President of Global Motorsports, Young brings over 30 years of experience within the DHL Group’s air and ocean freight division. He will be based in Atlanta, Georgia, and report directly to Tim Robertson, Chief Executive of DHL Global Forwarding Americas.
“Michael’s deep industry experience, people-first leadership style, and strategic mindset make him ideally suited to lead our U.S. operations into the next chapter of growth and innovation,” said Robertson. “His expertise in optimising processes and enhancing customer relationships will be vital in achieving our Strategy 2030 goals, including driving profitable growth, particularly in high-volume segments like eCommerce and SMEs.”
Young joined the organisation in 1992 and has held several senior commercial and leadership roles at the country, regional, and global levels. In 2008, he was appointed Executive Vice President Sales & Marketing, where he helped reshape the global sales function and embed a customer-centric culture across the business.
Since becoming UK & Ireland CEO in 2016, Young has led the division through several macroeconomic headwinds, including the Brexit transition. DHL credited him with building a “strong, future-ready business with a resilient growth outlook.”
In his parallel role as President of Global Motorsports, Young has been central in expanding DHL’s high-profile partnership with Formula 1, aligning logistics excellence with global brand visibility. He also serves as a trustee of the DHL Foundation in the UK, supporting initiatives that help underserved youth access meaningful employment.
Commenting on his new role, Young said: “It’s a great honour to take on this new role at such an exciting time for our business in the Americas. I look forward to working with our talented teams across the U.S. to continue delivering excellence for our customers, driving growth, and contributing to the broader strategic goals of DHL Global Forwarding.”
The appointment follows the company’s recent leadership reshuffle, including the naming of Amanda Rasmussen as Chief Commercial Officer in May, reflecting DHL’s commitment to strengthening executive leadership in key markets to drive its global ambitions.
