DHL Global Forwarding, Freight has announced the appointment of Tobias Maier as its new chief executive for the Middle East & Africa (MEA) region, effective 1 December. Maier succeeds Amadou Diallo, who steps down after more than eight years of leadership marked by expansion and innovation.
Maier, who joined DHL in 2008, brings extensive regional and operational experience to the role. He has held several senior leadership positions, including chief financial officer for the MEA region and chief executive of Saloodo! Middle East & Africa, the company’s digital freight platform. His work has played a significant role in advancing DHL’s presence across strategic markets.
According to DHL, Maier has been instrumental in driving mergers and acquisitions, strengthening the company’s footprint in Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Ethiopia and the UAE, and advancing initiatives such as DHL’s RailDirect joint venture with Etihad Rail.
“Tobias is a forward-thinking leader with a strong track record of delivering results and driving innovation,” said Oscar de Bok, chief executive of DHL Global Forwarding, Freight. “His deep understanding of the region and commitment to digital transformation make him the ideal choice to lead our business into its next chapter.”
Maier steps into a role shaped significantly by his predecessor. Under Diallo’s leadership since 2017, DHL Global Forwarding expanded its presence across the MEA region, championed sustainable logistics solutions, and oversaw a period of strategic investments.
“We are deeply grateful to Amadou for his outstanding leadership and unwavering dedication to our people, customers, and partners,” de Bok added. “His vision and passion have left an indelible mark on our organisation.”
