Fraport, the operator of Frankfurt Airport (FRA), is strategically gearing its hub towards the projected growth in the air cargo industry.
With global trade on the rise, airfreight volumes at the Frankfurt CargoHub are expected to surpass three million metric tons by 2040, marking a 50% increase from 2021.
To address evolving demands and challenges in logistics, Fraport has unveiled the CargoHub Masterplan, focusing on digitization, space optimization, and development.
The masterplan revolves around three main pillars: digitization and process innovation, space optimization, and space development.
By embracing digital processes, Fraport aims to enhance efficiency and transparency in logistics through initiatives like the Cargo Community System.
Collaborating with software developer DAKOSY, they formed allivate to accelerate the digital transformation.
Additionally, Fraport plans to reconfigure CargoCity South, creating more cargo space and ground handling facilities.
To accommodate growing cargo volumes, Fraport plans to establish a new LogisticsHub West on the former Ticona plant site.
This sustainable, digitized hub will initially offer up to 150,000 square meters of warehouse space by 2028, with potential for further expansion into a trimodal hub integrating road, rail, and air connections after 2030.
Discussions with regulatory authorities are underway to implement these changes, reflecting Fraport’s commitment to positioning Frankfurt as Europe’s premier CargoHub.
