Hong Kong Air Cargo (HKAC) has appointed Hakan Bulat as its new president, effective 3 March. Bulat, who brings over 20 years of experience in the air cargo and logistics sector, has held several senior leadership roles throughout his career.
Before joining HKAC, Bulat served as the chief executive of Hong Kong-based logistics solutions provider WE World Express for more than five years. He has also held prominent positions as executive director of PAL Express Limited, regional sales and marketing manager for Asia Pacific at Turkish Airlines Cargo, and has worked in various capacities at Jade Cargo International.
“We are excited to welcome Hakan Bulat to the team and are confident in his ability to lead the airline towards continued success in the air cargo sector,” said Tony Ma, chairman of Hong Kong Air Cargo.
Bulat expressed his gratitude for the opportunity in a LinkedIn post, stating, “I am grateful to the Hong Kong Air Cargo board for granting me this opportunity and look forward to expanding our horizons together with the amazing Hong Kong Air Cargo team.”
Bulat’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for HKAC as it continues to expand its global network. Last month, the airline launched services to Glasgow Prestwick Airport (PIK) in Scotland. Additionally, in October 2024, the airline inaugurated a new route between Hong Kong International Airport and Birmingham Airport in the UK. Last September, it introduced services to Budapest, Hungary, and Oslo, Norway, to capitalize on the growing demand for seafood products in Asia. The airline also launched a route to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in March 2024, as well as new routes to Liege and London Stansted earlier this year.
In October 2023, HKAC marked its first European operations with a service to Milan Malpensa.
Currently, the airline operates a fleet of five A330-200Fs dry-leased from its parent company, Hong Kong Airlines, alongside an EFW-converted Airbus A330-300P2F on an ACMI lease. By 2027, HKAC aims to expand its fleet to 15 aircraft, consisting of both owned and ACMI-leased units, as confirmed by former president and chief operations officer Captain Clifford Hung.
