n a swift humanitarian response to the devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela, LATAM Airlines Group has activated its Solidarity Plane programme, deploying dedicated passenger and freighter aircraft to transport emergency response teams and critical humanitarian supplies into the country free of charge.
The initiative underscores the strategic role of aviation logistics in disaster response, with LATAM leveraging its extensive passenger and cargo network to support relief operations across South America following the powerful earthquakes that triggered a large-scale international humanitarian response.
As part of the operation, LATAM has scheduled a special passenger flight from Bogotá to Caracas on 27 June, departing at 08:00 (Colombia time). The flight will carry more than 170 emergency personnel at no cost, including firefighters, urban search-and-rescue teams, medical professionals, and disaster response specialists from Colombia, Chile, Brazil, Ecuador and Peru. Representatives from Colombian humanitarian foundations travelling to assist affected communities will also be onboard.
Complementing the passenger mission, LATAM Cargo has arranged two dedicated freighter flights operating between Saturday night and Tuesday to airlift approximately 100 tonnes of humanitarian aid from international relief organisations into Venezuela.
The cargo shipments include equipment required to establish a fully operational field hospital, water purification and sanitation systems, power generators, emergency support equipment, hospital beds, triage systems, personal protective equipment (PPE), and other essential medical supplies designed to strengthen emergency healthcare capacity in the disaster-affected regions.
The humanitarian airlift has been coordinated through LATAM’s Solidarity Plane programme, the airline group’s long-standing corporate social responsibility initiative that provides passenger and cargo transportation free of charge for humanitarian organisations, medical missions and disaster relief efforts throughout South America.
By mobilising both passenger and cargo operations simultaneously, LATAM is demonstrating the critical importance of integrated aviation logistics in emergency response, enabling the rapid movement of specialised personnel alongside life-saving equipment and relief supplies when affected communities need them most.
The activation of the Solidarity Plane programme forms part of a broader international relief effort following the earthquakes, with governments, humanitarian agencies and logistics providers from across the Americas, Europe and beyond deploying rescue teams, medical personnel and emergency supplies to support Venezuela’s recovery.
For the air cargo industry, the operation highlights the indispensable role of dedicated freighter capacity and coordinated logistics networks in humanitarian emergencies, where speed, reliability and operational flexibility are essential to delivering critical aid during the first days of disaster response.
