The multimodal logistics-free zone, located inside Uruguay’s main international airport, provides tailored, innovative regional distribution platforms for a variety of industries such as pharma, high-tech, and E-commerce, among others.

Seeking to consolidate its role as a logistics hub for the region, Corporación América Airports in Uruguay inaugurated a new state-of the-art-infrastructure, including a modern pharmaceutical warehouse, and an innovative automated air cargo reception center at the country’s main international airport.

The company also introduced its brand Latin America Cargo City (LACC), formerly known as MVD Free Airport, its multimodal logistics free zone, the only one located inside an airport in the region, with GMP-compliant infrastructure, client-centered information systems, and highly skilled personnel, set to consolidate the company’s role as the leading distribution platform for the region.

The pharma warehouse inaugurated is the company’s second at the airport, enhancing its current capabilities to meet global customers’ needs. Pharma HUB 2 doubles the existing capacity in the +15+25 and +2+8 temperature ranges and provides GMP compliant conditioning areas and premium office space available for client business &
admin activities.

LACC’s current operations in the pharmaceutical sector range from agile, cross-docking operations consolidating sea freight and air freight and dispatching via truck to destination, as well direct-to-patient operations to South America and conditioning lines including labelling, stickering and incipient inkjetting operations.

The company has also inaugurated a modern automated air cargo reception area located next to the airport runway, which provides over 1500m2 additional reception spaces. With automated x-ray scans, complementary photographic documentation of inbound cargo can be added to keep improving the security of the cargo and the streamlining of the processes.

LACC provides a wide range of distribution set-ups designed to meet clients’ specific needs, including pay-per-use storage services, fully integrated conditioning lines, or tailored warehouse construction for client-operated models.
Given LACC’s strategic location inside an international airport it offers advantages for all airfreight, in terms of efficiency in cost, lead time as well as the ability to handle sea and land freight under a 24/7 365 days operation thus providing the necessary adaptability to meet every client’s and industry’s specific requirement.

“The first pharma warehouse raised awareness with many global pharmaceutical players on the possibilities that MVD’s Airport free zone presented, both for airfreight as well as sea and truck freight, to reach the region safer and more efficiently. With the second warehouse, we are expanding our scope of services under a GMP environment, including special areas for conditioning services, packaging material sourcing, storing, calibration and assembly, direct-to-patient shipments, amongst others.”, mentioned Bruno Guella, Managing Director at LACC – Latin America Cargo City.

“We have undergone significant growth, have expanded our service offering and client base and were seeking a brand that could fully convey this new positioning. The airport value proposal has been fully supported and sponsored by the Uruguayan government enabling new businesses with a long-term vision. This is critical for global companies
seeking long-term infrastructure investments under adaptable frameworks.

This new milestone launches a new cargo city environment that allows for reliable and efficient last-mile distribution, that is fully compliant with good manufacturing and distribution practices, and that enhances synergies within its tenants or clients. LACC is redefining Latin American logistics.”, he concluded.
