Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) has officially received IATA’s CEIV Pharma certification, marking a major milestone for the island’s life sciences logistics sector.
This achievement follows years of collaboration between the Puerto Rico Life Sciences Air Cargo Community, SJU, and the Department of Economic Development and Commerce (DEDC) to improve cold chain capabilities. The initiative provided training and financial support to help logistics providers meet global standards for the safe transport of pharmaceuticals.
Seven key companies have now earned their CEIV Pharma certification:
• American Airlines
• Prime Air Corp
• ETH Cargo
• Expeditors
• César Castillo
• Isla Frio Refrigeration
• Ground Motive Dependable Airline Services (GMD)
Jorge Hernandez, CEO of Aerostar Airport Holdings, expressed pride in the recognition: “This milestone reflects our collective commitment to ensuring safe, efficient pharmaceutical transport.”
IATA’s Regional VP for the Americas, Peter Cerda, also highlighted the significance, noting that SJU’s success sets a high standard for pharma logistics in the region.
The CEIV Pharma program, initiated by INDUNIV five years ago, is now entering a second phase to certify even more logistics partners. As Puerto Rico continues to strengthen its infrastructure, SJU’s new status as a certified pharma hub solidifies the island’s role as a reliable, global player in pharmaceutical logistics.
