Start-up carrier Sky Gates plans to increase its freighter fleet with the addition of another Boeing 747-400F full freighter aircraft. After successfully entering the market late last year, launching operations between Russia, Europe and the Far East, the airline has already seen fit to grow its operation.

Currently operating a fleet of two Boeing 747-400 freighters capable of transporting up to 112 tonnes of cargo, the addition of a third freighter represents significant growth for the carrier.

According to Nidjat Babayev, Senior Vice President of Sky Gates, the latest aircraft is due to be delivered by mid-June. The 747 is an ex-Cathay Pacific aircraft, which is currently operated by Silk Way West Airlines, Sky Gates’ partner airline.

“As a start-up carrier we are happy to pursue our strategy in increasing our fleet step-by-step. After having received the 2nd aircraft, the planning of a 3rd 400F will start. We are motivated by the support of our customers and we are convinced of the huge potential the Russian air cargo market will offer to Sky Gates. Not only we do see high numbers of flown hours on our first aircraft, we already do have commitments on the second aircraft,” Babayev commented.

“We can expect further exiting news on our development as we do plan an integrated approach towards The Russian air cargo market in the future” he concluded.
